COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Originally called "liquid bread," the Dopplebock style guided monks through periods of penitent fasting. Wolfgang has heavenly notes of caramel, dark fruit, and toffee balanced by a subtle hop character. While its revered history evokes and appreciation of austerity and sacrifice, this Dopplebock is a rich luxury - no repentance required.

Pours ruby brown with a beige head that's foamy and settles to a fine finger. Broad, finely-bubbled lacing. Aroma is rich roast malt, darkfruits, bread and booze. Taste tracks the nose very well, but amps up those flavors. Bread, roasted malts and caramel upfront and fig and alcohol in the rear. Even some bitterness in that backyard. An upper-echelon doppelbock. Make me a monk. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Appearance: Liquid plum and raisins with garnet glints along the sides. A khaki head fades with a few arcs of lace before setting into a full thick blanket. Swirls thick and with more lace.
Nose: Melba and pumpernickel toast with brittle chocolates and dark fruit stones on top. Chewy meaty sweet plums and raisins in the middle. Light treacle and toffee along the sides. Chocolate graham crackers and cinnamon sprinkles.
Palate: Whole loaves of pumpernickel and wheat breads soaked with plums, raisins, and prunes. Tart tannic leather finish of stones and red wine soaked leather with a nip of cayenne in the back. Sweet toffee and treacle coat the sides along with weaving in and out of the other flavors. Grapes and figs up front.
Final Thoughts: Another delicious beer from Great Divide Brewing. As far as doppelbocks go, Wolfgang is a winner and would make any German proud. A seasonal offering, be sure to grab a couple bottles when you see it on the shelf.
