On cask at Congress, Longton. Pours pitch black with a tan head. Hop smack aroma, smooth mouthfeel. Some smoke, hint of caramel. So much going on with this. Bloody marvellous but I did somewhat over do it, it ain’t a session ale at 6.5%.... androman (2768) - Maarssen, NETHERLANDS - MAR 2, 2015
33cl bottle at home from Appellation Wines, Edinburgh. Body is nearly black, head is very small, off-white, mostly diminishing, good lacing. Nose is light roasty, aroma is pine, herbs, spices, wood, roasted malt. Light to medium sweet, medium bitter. Finish is interesting light herbs, medium lasting roasty bitter, watery side taste. Medium to full body, dry texture, soft carbonation. Easy, very tasty, great beer. digopossobon (392) - MACAE, BRAZIL - FEB 16, 2015

Cask at friends of ham, Leeds. Black with a cream head. Aroma is grassy and piney with grapefruit and some lychee. Taste is dry and bitter. Medium body and light carbonation. Smaskifa (136) - Oslo, NORWAY - JAN 17, 2015
Bottle. Pitch dark stuff, neat head which keeps hanging on. The aroma is dominated by the smoked malts and hops, some coffee, dark choco, intensely dried red berries, resin. The taste starts off pretty neat, easy to pick up the roasted stuff, coffee, choco, and the malts, some intense fruitiness going on as well, hint of licorice. I did however find the end to be too bitter and too dominated by the smoked malts and hops, I also picked up a pretty heavy touch of resin. The beer is very nice until the end which hits you like an Indian lorry overloaded with bitterness. It’s too unbalanced to get a very high score for me. Maybe a few more weeks or months on the bottle would have reduced it.

Bottle. Pitch black with medium, beige, densed head. Average lacing. Poor head lasting. The aroma are mainly roasted malts - dark fruits, a touch o coffe and dark chocolate. Low hoppy (floral, pine aroma). Again dark malts flavours - mainly dark fruits, low to medium bitterness. Dry, average carbonation, slick texture, medium body. Finish is dry and little bitter. In overall average black IPA, It could be more hoppier and intense in the aroma. Quite good drinkable. planky84 (3379) - Lee, Greater London, ENGLAND - DEC 29, 2014
Cask at the Hare and Billet, Blackheath. Black pour with a beige head. Aromas of licorice, dark fruit and a splash of coffee. Nice roast laden flavours, a spot of licorice and black treacle here and there. Nice bitter kick. Sharp bitterness in the finish. Tasty. Bottle from national brewery centre, burton. Black beer with medium tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, licorice and a little citrus. Taste is roasted malts, licorice, charcoal and hops. Very good beer. jamesie1857 (1975) - Sheffield, South Yorkshire, ENGLAND - DEC 24, 2014
330ml bottle from Beer Central, Sheffield - a beautiful black pour with a lacy white head, as nice as you’ll ever see from a bottle. The nose is fruit, malt, and more sour fruits. A bitter first bite, typical IPA, then malt and a bit of caramel. Nice oily feel, yet refreshing, great overall. Top notch. RichTheVillan (8110) - Birmingham, West Midlands, ENGLAND - DEC 23, 2014
Bottle from SarkyNorthener cheers Martin; almost black pour with a frothy light tan head, resinous pine aroma with a hint chocolate, taste has found fresh pine, like being hit with an xmas tree, plain chocolate, a hint of citrus, dark toasty malts, ticks all the CDA boxes.
