Poured on tap at 2015 Great Lakes Bottle Release of BA Blackout Stout party. Darkest of black with minimal dark tan head.
Aroma is light roasted sweet cocoa with a tad of bourbon. Coffee but over the top.
Flavor is off the map smooth chocolate. Coffee is more subtle. Bourbon so good but not crazy. The balance of this brew is incredible to the palate. Grateful to have snagged 2 cases at the bottle release.
My favorite of the 10, 12, 13, 14, 15 I have been blessed to consume. Flat out beautifully done by GL considering this is the ONLY barrel aged brew they do in their 25 years of brewing. Atom (2522) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - JAN 19, 2015
On tap at Busters pours a dark brown/black with a large khaki tan head. Aroma of chocolate, molasses, caramel with a sweet balanced bourbon presence. Smooth palate, very well balanced. Chocolate, molasses, vanilla, mild oak, bourbon, some roasted malts. There is a simple yet complex balance that makes this really nice! Art (3219) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 21, 2014
Free bottle from free beer week. Thanks! Pours a dark blackish brown with a slight brown head that quickly dissipates. Aromas of vanilla, nutty toasted grains, cocoa powder. Taste has all the components. Sweet with a slight bourbon feel and that slightly acrid finish. Really great stuff all around. charule (2277) - New York, New York, USA - DEC 20, 2014

2009 bottle from jsquire, cellar aged a couple of months. Thanks, Jeff! Shared with ck1, Steve and Ken during Spit Cup weekend. Black pour. Nice lace. Aroma from across the room has bourbon vanilla, then on closer inspection, caramel and chocolate with light grape. Taste is caramel with huge whiskey in the back end. Some bakers chocolate. Finish is sweet with a whiskey tail. Smoother than BCBS, for example, but also not as complex. 15.4

Reviewing 2013 vintage, been on my want list for many years.
Pours a black body, head is tan in color. Head retention was slightly below average and lacing was above average.
Smells of sweet bourbon, vanilla, chocolate malts, and a hint of honey. For 10% abv, I definitely got a good whiff of alcohol.
Taste is a mix of a classic imperial stout, deep roasted malts, combined with sharp bourbon notes. Surprised at the raw ethanol characteristics of the beer, at almost two years old the beer still has a kick to it. Chocolate and burnt malts offset that unpleasant heat. Beer finishes with some vanilla sweetness.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied and well carbonated. Head died fast and unfortunately didn’t contribute any.
Overall this was a good beer but it was a little underwhelming. The hype surrounding this beer as one of the top 250 in the world probably raised my expectations somewhat. Bourbon was pretty pronounced but all the other flavors were kinda muted. Glad I got to try it but It wasn’t anywhere close to the top barrel aged stouts out there. 2006 version, bottle 53 of 900. Yes, it was past it’s prime, but still interesting and tasty. Most of BA characteristics have faded at this point, leaving a red wine notes with just a hint of vanilla. Some earthy notes, too. Some notes of soy sauce starting to creep in, as well. Bottle: Thanks Futuraxz: Served in a Chouffe glass:
Black beer with a thin light brown lacing.
Aromas of bourbon, butter, spice, cream, mocha, some raisin, vanilla and wood.
Flavours of bourbon, spice, chocolate, vanilla, chocolate, bitters, mocha, malt roast, spices and cream with a custardy edge.
Aftertaste is a mix of bourbon, roast, malts, vanilla and some chocolate.
Low carbo, very light sparkling creamy mouthfeel, fullbodied and a creamy texture.
Very nice beer but not as balanced as I would expect... slowrunner77 (12451) - Reno, Nevada, USA - OCT 1, 2014
"damn - this was was THOROUGHLY enjoyed. Thanks Cory. Holy crap was it delicious. Just right on the bourbon with vanilla, chocolate, roast, coffee and wood on the palate. similar aroma, but a tad more subdued. velvety smooth feel, not hot at all. World Class! Lost a little in traslation to 12 oz bottles. Not as smooth, otherwise still epic!"
