Aroma: Dry smokey aroma, but faint. Hints of roasted malts, too. Appearance: Black with tan head. Taste: Medium smoke, with light sweetness. Palate: Full body, soft carbonation, dry texture, long finish Overall: Smoke gets a bit overwhelming, but still a solid beer.

draft at coles, buffalo ny, dark brown/black pour, roasted malts, touch of chocolate & subtle smokiness. Taste is a nice flavorful medium roasted porter with hints of chocolate & mild to medium smoke. Very drinkable & quite nice

3oz sample @ GLBF 2011. Russet bronze with a small off-white head. Sweet nose, bit musty. Sweet caramel with smoke hanging over it is the best way to describe it. Drinkable and interesting.

Autumn Brew Review 2011. Dark brown color with a medium head. Light Rauch smoke aroma. That turns to very, very strong in the flavor. Just a bit of roasted barley. Medium body. My only complaint is that if I was blindfolded, I wouldn’t be able to tell this was a porter and not a Schlenkerla lager. Then again, that’s not a bad problem, really.

The beer pours a nice dark brown with medium tan head, good retention and lacing. The aroma is nice but on the lighter side, a nice note of smoke and coffee. The taste is very similar to the aroma, a nice little smokiness but not enough to get tired of distract. A very nice drinkable porter.

Not too impressed with this. Had it on draft at Great Lakes. The smoke flavors are mild. The overall body seemed thin. The medium hops and malt balance.

Cask Pour is Maproom. Pour is clear and almost black with a typical big-bubbled cask pour head. Aroma is quite roasty with lots of smoke, toasted malt, and notes of dark chocolate. Mouth is a touch thin and flavor is slightly muted. Level of smoke in the flavor is nice’ it’s present but not overwhelming. Also light notes of chocolate. Solid, just a little thin.

black with large white head. nost of some sweet malt and smoke. solid bitterness before some roasty flavors and a lot of smoke, though no overwhelming. a well flavored smoked porter that could benefit from a little more sweetness to add some complexity. the smoke is well present, but the underlying porter could be somewhat improved

On tap at the Great Lakes brewpub.
Dark roasted malts balanced very well with hints of chocolate and smoke. Excellent full bodied palate. A wonderful smoked beer and my favorite smoked porter.
