Love, love, love. A hop–splosion in my mouth and great for date night. Just enjoyed spaghetti and homemade meatballs and washed the ballsy salty taste from my mouth with this delicious dark IPA. Can’t wait for the next sip to flow down my throat. Totally recommend this beer. Gorbalev (3000) - Ontario, CANADA - DEC 15, 2012
Bottle, thanks Colin for picking this up in Ottawa, I never saw it in KW. Pitch black with a gigantic bubbly tan head. What a fantastic fruity hop aroma! Lovely. Taste - yep, juicy juicy hops, very fruity over a nice medium malt body. So drinkable without a hint of alcohol. Served blind I could not guess it was a black IPA, so not sure what that adds besides a cool looking pour. What it is though is simply one of the best Ontario beers I have ever had. Thanks Great lakes! barncatmatt (2285) - Cambridge, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 24, 2012
750ml bottle shared by jsprime with me and joel. black with a tan head. incredibly impressive nose, it just explodes out of the glass. the flavour is not quite as good as the nose but its still very impressive. this drink much lighter then the abv. best black ipaive had. kevinsenn (2182) - Waterloo, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 26, 2012
750mL bottle, from LCBO (hidden in the back room - by request only?). Pours nearly opaque black, with a thin tan head. Terrific citrus fruit hoppy aroma, with some smooth chocolate in there too. Taste is hoppy bitter, with brown sugar, tropical fruit, chocolate and coffee. Some black IPAs are a mess, but this one blends the fruity hops with the dark malts perfectly. Even my usually-picky wife loved this one. A definite winner. If GLB would brew stuff like this as their "regulars", they could be right up there with the great American craft breweries. rejtable (2624) - Ontario, CANADA - NOV 25, 2012
Awesome top to bottom. Pours cola black with an initial big foamy tan head that fades to a nice light covering. Lacing is looooong. Nose is pine and some roasted notes. Aromas are big hops... Pine, some grapefruit. Also some burnt toast and maybe a hint of spice back there. Tastes are huge bitter hops and light sweet. Medium body in mouth with lively carbonation. Stellar.

(on tap at Bryden’s, 12-31-2012) Pours pitch black with an inch of fairly dense and creamy tan head that left a curtain of lace. Aroma is massively citrus hop forward, some pit fruit, bit of pine resin, light roasted malt and a bit of alcohol when warm. Flavour is again big and hop-forward, citrus primarily with some pine, dark malt, light roast coffee coming through more on the finish. A little woody, big bitterness throughout, dry but not really astringent on the finish. As it warms, more sweetness up front from the malt plays in with the fruitiness, downplays the bitter coffee finish. Booze almost undetectable until warm, dangerous... Mouthfeel is quite full but not syrupy, a little overcarbonated as I find GL beers’ Achilles heel on draught to be. Top flight black IPA, nails the style on the head. Great impy IPA period, actually. Thanks to cfrancis for this. Pours an opaque black with a brown frothy head that leaves lots of stucky lacing. Aroma of mild citrus hops, roast malts, some chocolate and cocoa. Taste is citrus hops, some roast malts and mild coffee bitterness. Very good balance of malts and hops but seems more like an American ipa rather than a black ipa in the taste. andrewturba (1190) - Alberta, CANADA - JAN 19, 2013
Pours an opaque black with a small tan coloured head leaving a lot of lace up the glass. Aromas are citrus, roasted malts, chocolate. Flavours are roasted malts, black malts, citrus hops, medium-high bitterness, coffee like dry finish. sseb69 (1907) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - NOV 25, 2012
UPDATED: OCT 9, 2014 Bouteille 750 ml. 9.5% à 100 IBU ! Couleur noire, mousse beige-brune. Arôme de HOUBLON frais, herbes quisautent au nez...ensuite un peu de torréfaction. En bouche, malt grillé, un peu de chocolat et espresso et encore du houblon. Finale en amertume persistante et café noir. Exellente Black IPA cfrancis (3407) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 30, 2012
Pours black with a moderate off white velvet top. Aroma is citrus hops. Taste is big citrus hops and bitterness. Had just after the Puzzler, not so much roasted malts. This is the stereotypical "black" IPA. It’s a great IPA that happens to be black. Great beer!
