Enjoyed on tap at Everitt Brick Works event. Black bodied with little head. Rich and sweet good bourbon. A little astringent in the finish, coconut. A good porter and integrated with the barreling.

UPDATED: JUL 10, 2012 2012-07-06. Black body with a modest tan head that fades a bit. 3+ Modest aroma, sweet dark malt with mild whisky overtones and hints of treacle and caramel. 7+ Flavour is similar, good amount of bourbon overtones but the support of the sweet dark base malt keeps it from becoming too overwhelming. Hints at sweet caramel and toffee, a bourbon note that has a nuance to it that I cant define beyond "caramel and treacle" but that is not quite right, perhaps vanilla influenced? 7+ Smooth medium bodied palate. Pretty solid, it is relatively dominated by the bourbon barrel but I feel like the base beer has stood up to it a bit better than I recall in the Project X version. 7+/4/7+/4/16 - 3.8 Bottle from the brewery.

2012-04-12. Black body with a very small tan head and lace. 3+ Sweet bourbony aroma, modest vanilla character grows as you go, and as it warms. 7+ Flavour is sweet bourbony vanilla. Smooth average plus to medium bodied palate. 3+ Decent I enjoyed this in a small glass, but I found it too bourbony and one dimensional to drink more than that, but that is personal taste. A blend of this and the Anniversary porter might have been rather good. 7/3/7/3/14-15 3.5 On tap? at Project X, Victory Cafe, Toronto

Deep dark black pour with a creamy dark brown head. The aroma is intense - loads of rich cocoa, dark chocolate and leather as well as an overtone of vanilla and sweet bourbon. A fairly pronounced dry plum and date aroma along with some light coffeeish character. Rich and tasty stuff.

UPDATED: DEC 28, 2012 [4435K-20120412] Tap. Plastic bandaid Strawberry Shortcake malt aroma. Black brown body with a quick creamy mocha head. Strong vanilla roast malt flavour has a lot of cocoa. Full body. Packs a vanilla creamy roast punch, interesting to sample. (7/3/7/3/14) 3.4

Bottle [750ml] shared with HogTownHarry, tupalev, GregClow, jerc & mabel -- c/o j&m. Pours a very dark ruby-brown with an average size frothy light-brown head. Aroma is quite sweet and barrel-aged, with vanilla, bourbon, alcohol, chocolate and light leafy hops -- a little to B.-A.ed for me. Flavour is malty and sugary sweet along with bourbon, dark fruit, chocolate and coffee. Average to medium bodied. Really good but I prefer the original as the barrel-aging is a bit too much.

July 6, 2012 - with blankboy, gregclow, jercraigs & mabel. 750ml bottle c/o j&m. Aged in Buffalo Trace barrels. Ruby/brown/black pour with a smallish frothy tan/light brown head (4-). Aroma is floral, chocolate, more than a little sweet bourbon and oak, some alcohol. Taste - Play-Doh and plasticine but in a good way - sweet, deeply roasty, sneaky boozy, really nicely balanced, the bourbon doesnt make too many demands ----- smooooooth. Slick, average body, mild carbonation, a weirdly sweet and herbal finish, the oak and bourbon fade fairly quickly.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color porter with a medium dark brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of strong bourbon notes with light vanilla and some light corn notes also noticeable. Taste is a great mxi between some light roasted malt with medium bitterness with some black chocolate and string dominant notes of bourbon and vanilla. Body is slightly below average with good carbonation and light warming alcohol notes. Quite a bit extreme with the barrel-aging so this is no an everyday drink but nice treat nonetheless.

Bottle from brewery. Pours an ultra-dark brown with large-sized tan head head. Aroma is dark chocolate and molasses with leathery/woody barrel and even a little vanillaish sweetness. Flavour is a little roastier and the mild sweetness doesnt come through as much with the barrel notes dominating a little more. Fine carbonation. Quite nice.

Deep black in colour with a tan head, good lacing, excellent retention. The aroma is a little lackluster, not a whole lot of anything going on with just a bit of sweetness. The flavour is of bourbon, vanilla, light smoke, dark chcolate and coffee. Bitter mouthfeel, medium body, moderate carbonation. Finishes long, burnt and sweet.

Nicely done, I love the one offs from Great Lakes.

On tap at St. Veronus in Peterborough, Ontario.
Sampled on June 18, 2012.

750 mL bottle from the brewery. Poured a lovely ruby brown with a medium, sticky. brown head. The aroma is all about the barrel, with some mocha undertones. Flavour packs a real punch. Wood and porter flavours merge nicely, and theyve somehow upped the booze by a percentage point. Good body.
