2012-12-31. Dark brown small beige head fades. Hot alcohol overtones, sweet sugary malt struggles to sneak past it. 6+-7 Flavour is similarly boozy but the sugars and malt come through more clearly. Dry alcoholic finish warms the throat. Average plus palate is a touch lighter than my preference for the style. Decent and enjoyable, but a bit boozier and simple than I had hoped. [5039-20121231] Bottle. Roasted figgy malt grain aroma. Black brown body with a quick foamy brown head. Roasted sweet boozy grain malt flavour has a long sweet fruity fig roast aftertaste. Full body. Tasty. (7/3/8/4/16) 3.8

Bottle from brewery at beginning of year. Rare one-off, at 11.3% and 30 ibu. A very potent brown, with star anise as the predominant spice. Very brown, above average mouthfeel. Decent for the style though not very complex, it lfinishes sweet, with hops starting to fade.
