Cask at Cheshire Cat, Carp, Ottawa. Very dark brown, small beige head. Vanilla, coffee and caramel up front. Sweet with medium-full body and dense, rounded mouthfeel. Chocolate, caramel and vanilla. Low bitterness. Kauge (1984) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - MAR 8, 2017
8 oz at Volo. 6.5%. Dark brown, modest tan head. Aroma: wwwweird medicinal kind of chocolaty vanillaish strangeness.... Tastes so sweet, so much vanilla. Argh. Sprinkly active carbonation and medium body. Harsh vitamin C kind of medicinal finish. Super strange and I’m afraid almost undrinkable. A gimmick gone too far. Fucking hell. Couldn’t even finish the small sample... Looking at the scores, had something happened to it? Or am I just too sensitive for stuff over-infused with vanilla? thorongil2 (3257) - , Ontario, CANADA - FEB 21, 2017

Half pint @Hungry Brew Hops in Newmarket, Ontario. Black/brown with Nice tan, frothy head and amazing lace. Big, bold roasted malts with some hop, ash, and wood content. Taste is very roasted with vanilla and chocolate, backed up by some earthy tones. Medium to full-bodied with a balanced, but layered character. Finishes with a good bitterness. Fantastic porter. Pours a dark brown colour with copper highlights, a beige creamy head and some light lace. Roasted malt aromas with coffee notes, chocolate, dark fruits and the soft vanilla. Not getting much of the bourbon but a lot of the same in the taste. A nice mix between the malted barley and the vanilla bean.

Dark brown with ruby edges, thin off-white head with some light lacing. The aroma is of chocolate, some coffee and vanilla beans. The flavour is moderately sweet, a fair amount of chocolate and vanilla, light roast. Slightly sweet mouthfeel, medium/light body, moderate carbonation. Finishes long, sweet. A fair amount of vanilla in this but not getting much in the line of bourbon. Pretty good still. Tranquillity (2461) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 27, 2015
Cask at barhop. Very dark, small beige head. The aroma is subtle, a bit of smoke. The taste is exploding, it’s bacon, smoke, malt. Just beautiful. Whatup14 (2098) - Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, CANADA - SEP 28, 2015

(Project X version: 6.5% ABV and 30IBU)
Appearance: opaque brown-black with one finger of rocky tan head, excellent retention and lacing. (5/5) Aroma: vanilla bean, dark chocolate and coffee, bourbon. (8/10) Taste: moderately strong sweet, moderately strong bitter. (7/10) Palate: full body, moderate-low carbonation, moderate lingering bitter and warming finish. (4/5)
Surprisingly bombastic for a relatively restrained ABV - it swaggers like a double-digit but is fairly successfully in punching above its weight. I say “fairly”, because the finish ultimately gets a bit unbalanced towards the bitter once the sweetness subsides, and you’re able to taste it since the taste buds haven’t been pummelled into submission by the booziness. Still, very much worth a try, and the lower ABV means you won’t be limited to just one - whether of this, or something else! (16/20) Helsdon (416) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - APR 12, 2015
Big bottle from the brewery labeled on a project X neck tag. (As per usual.) Pours as back as Lord Voldemort soul (...ah the bit that’s stuck in that locket I guess) with a little more head that q-ball L.V. has hair. A sweet nose of vanilla, and chocolate, malts that come off burn and a little dusty. The taste is a decent hit of roasted malts, a little dust and ash. (What is the malt out there that does that. It keeps coming up.) Fairly sweet with a strong presents of that vanilla, the bourbon hiding for me. Overall sweeter than I was hoping for, and not the bourbon flavour either.
