Project X bottle. 7.5%, 40 ibu. Pours a near black with a frothy, mocha, two finger head that leaves modest lacing. Aroma is roasty with hints of chocolate, and faint coffee. Taste is on the bitter side. Not as sweet as the base beer. Roasty with a touch of chocolate and a espresso like bitterness on the finish. Medium body with a low-medium carbonation. Fairly clean and dry in the mouth. Overall a nice variation on the base beer. Roasty with a big espresso bitterness on the finish. Bendrixian (1514) - Canadiana, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 6, 2014
650ml. Similar jet black colour with minimal head and good lacing as the Harry Porter. Tons of coffee grounds and espresso notes on this one with sweet chocolate and some roast. On the palate it is quite grainy and filled with dark roast coffee bitterness. Very enjoyable. kevinsenn (2263) - Waterloo, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 24, 2014
On tap at the Bent Elbow. Coffee aroma. Black with a brown head. Sweet coffee and sugar taste, oats, and a bitter finish. Nice stuff. neongolden (1781) - Linköping, Sweden/Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 16, 2014
(On tap at Bryden’s, Jan 14 2014) Pours black with dark brown highlights and a loose frothy tan head, left loads of lace. Aroma is loaded with roast coffee bean/grounds, fairly dry with a little sweet dark malt as it warmed. Flavour initially of cold, strong dark coffee or espresso lightly sweetened, a little dark malty flavour in the middle and then coffee bean/ground flavour and moderate bitterness on the finish, really roasty and very dry overall. As it warmed, more pronounced malt sweetness in the middle along with a floral, leafy hop character towards the finish which integrated well with all the roast at the end. Body medium, fairly soft carbonation. This is a really coffee-forward beer, not surprisingly, but what struck me is how coffee bean forward it was. The aroma and much of the flavour were more like the bean than the drink. Like chocolate-covered espresso beans without most of the chocolatey sweetness. None of the ashtray-like character of some coffee porters. I love coffee, so this worked for me. Boutip (6483) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - JUL 5, 2013
Bottle: Poured a dark color stout with a large dark brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of dry floral coffee undertone is quiet pleasant with light roasted malt notes. Taste is also dominated by floral coffee notes with roasted malt and light black chocolate notes. Body is about average with good carbonation. I really enjoyed this one which packs quite a lot of flavours and is well balanced without the dryness for the coffee overshadowing the rest of the ingredients.

[5161-20130310] Tap. Lots of coffee grains in the aroma. Brown black body with a quick foamy light brown head. Bitter coffee and sweet wood grain flavour. Full body. Good, sessionable. (7/3/7/3/15) 3.5

Bottle from the brewery. Pours an opaque black with a bit of brown head. Smell is coffee, chocolate, and just a hint of roastiness. Palate is medium bodied with good carbonation. Taste is slightly sweet at first before getting a bitter coffee kick and merging with a bitter hoppy kick. Aftertaste is slightly bitter and roasty in the back of my mouth. Decent, but the vanilla bean version is better. blankboy (7786) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 26, 2013
Draught at Bar Hop for ’Dark Water Series 2013’. Pours black with a small semi-lasting bubbly tan head. Big coffee aroma along with some roasted malt, chocolate and light leafy hops -- but mainly coffee. Big coffee flavour as well, along with some roasted malt and chocolate -- it’s almost like an iced coffee. Big bitter coffee finish. Average to medium bodied. If you like coffee have at it, if you don’t it’s best to stay away. Jayseppi (159) - Ontario, CANADA - MAR 18, 2013
Poured a midnight black out of the bottle. Left only traces of any head. Roast and coffee on the nose. The flavours are a bit rough and could use somje better integration. all the elements are there, just need to be fine tuned. the mouthfeel is a little thin and over over carbonated for my liking, but not enough to ruin the beer. Average beer that I probably wouldnt pick up again due to the price tag. solidfunk (9363) - Washington D.C., Washington DC, USA - MAR 12, 2013
UPDATED: MAR 14, 2013 Pretty well done. Pours black with some lacing and good initial head. Strong aroma of coffee though can’t taste the fair trade. It’s all in the imagination I guess. Finishes with but bitter. Consistency a little syrupy.. Tap at barhop.
