2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Half point at the Loon. Deep brown black with a small mocha head. Decent black coffee and dark chocolate, cold and tight, a touch of tang, a touch smokey. Medium body with plucky effervescence. Reasonable coffee, a little leafy hops stern and stark, a little molasses and a touch of smoke; dry with decent bitterness and a fair long black coffee finish.
Pours nearly opaque black with a beige head that leaves plenty of lacing. Aroma is coffee and roasted malt. Taste is slightly sweet, slightly bitter with notes of coffee, roasted malt and dates. Thin bodied and mild to moderately carbonated. It’s pretty tasty but it’s very heavy on the palate so I couldn’t imagine drinking more than one at a time. On tap at the Arrow and Loon in Ottawa. Has a thick brownish foamy head and a dark brown appearance. Very thick dirty lacing. Aromas of chocolate, mocha and dark roasted malts. Flavours are also very much chocolate influenced but with notes of vanilla, coffee and hints of caramel sweetness and resin hops. Has a mild warming sensation. Full bodied mouthfeel and some slickness. Nice bitterness and quite smooth on the palate. Another really good GLB brew and probably the first i’ve enjoyed on tap and not bottled. :) ChadPoole (479) - Ontario, CANADA - JAN 8, 2017
Pours dark mahogany with a beige head. Aroma is roasted coffee and chocolate. Flavour is the same as aroma with a smokey background. Smooth full body and easy to drink. Well done. ILduce (285) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 7, 2017
UPDATED: JAN 7, 2017 Half pint @Hungry Brew Hops in Newmarket, Ontario. Black/brown with Nice tan, frothy head and amazing lace. Big, bold roasted malts with some hop and wood content. Taste is very roasted with vanilla and chocolate, backed up by some earthy tones. Medium to full-bodied with a very balanced, but layered character. Finishes with a good bitterness. Fantastic porter. Best imperial Porter around. Rich and deep like a stout, with complex flavours, not a one note beer. Easy enough to drink, great choice for winter relaxing but could also do a summer BBQ in moderation. A kind of hidden gem with all the attention the IPAs get, this one is top notch.

Can from the brewery. Dark mahogany under a fluffy two finger lingering khaki head. Nose of chocolate and coffee with a touch of dark fruit. Light sweet molasses with a light+ chocolate bitterness. Mouth is medium- and creamy with average carbonation. Well balanced porter.

Nitro pour at bar hop. Pours dark brown/black with an off white head. Milk choc aroma. Medium body, medium carbonation. Prunes, choc, coffee, light lemon, bitter choc... Smooth and very drinkable. More stout than porter, though.
