News of any new hop coming from the Yakima Valley perks the ears of IPA brewers everywhere, but, with Citra, things were different. The buzz was bigger. As Citra’s wave rolled across the land from the west coast we waited... and waited. Finally it crested, and a sample crashed into our pilot system. After brewing with it all the buzz made sense. Comments ranged from "Well that changes the game" to "It’s so good it feels like we’re cheating." Today we procure as much as Citra as we can to bring you as much of this IPA as our little brewery can muster. All hail Citra!

Cloudy golden-orange color, medium sized head. Very nice citrusy and resiny hops, better in the aroma, while the flavor seems not so fresh; dry mouthfeel, biscuity malts.
Very nice.

650mL bottle, sent from wilco (thanks a lot, Mike), pours a cloudy golden orange with a small white head. Nose is full of piney and citrus hops, a noticeable astringency, and a thin crackery malt backing. Flavour is a piney and citrus hop blast, with medium astringency, and a thin but sufficient crackery malt backing. Very hoppy, dry and highly drinkable. Exactly how I like my IPAs. Wonderful stuff.

The pour is a clear golden color with a finger of white head. Light grass notes along with citrus peel and pine. A touch of pineapple along with some pale maltiness. A bit of candied citrus peel along with some grapefruit peel, pine, and grass. Sweetness from pale malt and a little bit of caramel.

Can - Sweet tropical and citrus notes. Cloudy gold with a decent white head. Candy and hoppy sweetness. Solid.

A clear golden IPA with a thin white head. In aroma, a sweet fruity malt with light floral hops, not bad. In mouth, a nice biscuit malt with good citrusy hops, menthol notes, grassy and smooth.Cask at Ontario Cask IPA Challenge, April 21, 2012.

On-tap at Volo. Big citrus, orangey. Very tasty and great job with citra, via early addition of citra to hopper, avoiding any off-notes.Orange coloured body.Above average mouthfeel.

UPDATED: MAY 15, 2011 2011-05-13. crisp golden amber body with a small wite head. 3+ Lovely hoppy aroma, modest citrus melange, modest leafy green hop character. 7+ Flavour is similar with a modest citrus and leafy green hop profile throughout. Smooth average to light bodied palate. 3+ Went back for two more of these and it seemed like each sample was slightly different. Quite enjoyable but didn’t knock my socks off like it did on tap. 7+/3+/7+/3+/16 - 3.6 Volo IPA Cask Challenge

2011-03-11. Hazy orange amber with a modest white head. 3+ Lovely hoppy aroma, modest citrus melange grows by the sniff, light alcohol. Not as assertive as some but it is persistent and keeps checking in as you drink your way through the glass. 8+ The flavour has a similar hop profile, lovely citrus, sort of tangerine like character, mild hop bitterness throughout, light alcohol, lingering citrus in the finish and aftertaste. Average plus bodied palate. YOWZA! It probably doesn’t have the depth of character that some others do but this just makes a marvelous first impression and continues to ingratiate itself as you go on. Eminently drinkable. I opened a bottle at home the next night and was please to find it of similarly high quality. MORE PLEASE! 8+/4/8/3/17+ - 4.2 Great Lakes Tap Takeover at Volo, Toronto

3rd annual Ontario Cask IPA Challenge tasted blind. Bright golden pour. The aroma is really lovely. Tropical and fruity with a nice fresh resiny character. A little bit of pale malt sweetness. Lean bodied and perfectly fresh smelling. Orange/lemon and some other bright citrusy notes. Tropical and awesome.

UPDATED: JUL 2, 2011 [3641-20110312] Tap. Orange pop hops aroma. Hazy, medium orange body with a medium-lasting creamy white head. Bitter citrus orange seed hops flavour has a great bitter citrus aftertaste. Medium-full body. Bitter, citrus-heavy, and delicious. (8/4/9-/5/18) 4.4
Overheard: "This smells like fxcking magic."

[3733C-20110514] Cask. Sweaty rainy concrete and wet leaf hops aroma. Clear, golden orange body with a quick foamy white head. Muted harsh bitterness and smooth grainy cardboard hops flavour. Medium body. Interesting, just a little harsh transition. Not really feeling it today as everyone else is. (6/3/7/3/14) 3.3
(IPA Challenge @ Volo, Toronto, ON)
