COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Okay, we’re busted! We’re calling this beer a weiss; it’s not! We’re suggesting it’s from Miami; we’ve never even been there. Confused? So are we.

What we know is it is an American style take on a traditional German wheat beer - A Pale Wheat. Rather than a mild hop presence, this baby is packed with Pacific Northwest hops. It’s made with a pale ale yeast which doesn’t produce the same banana flavour you find in German weiss beers. We also know that it goes down smooth and tastes terrific.

So, what’s with the name Miami Weiss? It’s just something the guys in marketing came up with.

Miami Weiss. Aside from being a very clever play on words, it’s Toronto brewery Great Lakes’ take on an American weiss beer. Clearly a homage to the 1980’s, I feel like I need to turn on some Rick Astley while drinking it. That’s what people did in the 1980’s when they partied right? Pours a hazy yellow. Aroma is fresh hops and citrus. Flavor has pepper and strong grapefruit notes. For a weiss beer it’s strong on hops. Miami Weiss is a refreshing and different take on the style, and great for summer time bbq’s. Just don’t turn up the Rick Astley too loud after you’ve had a few. You will regret it in the morning.

Has a new label on the bottle, not the same shown in the picture here. Purchased at LCBO for about $6.A weiss beer but mixed with a lot of Hops making it different from other Weiss beers, just like it states in the bottle. American/Canadian style take on a Weiss...just like usual putting a twist to it, nothing wrong with that. I liked this beer!

650ml bottle. Hazy straw in colour with a large and long lasting white head, excellent lacing. The aroma is quite hoppy, citrus, fruit, some wheat. The flavour is again quite hoppy, lots of orange citrus, wheat and yeast. Hoppy mouthfeel, medium/light body, moderate carbonation. Finishes long, hoppy, citrusy. Really good. So refreshing on this hot day. Excellent balance.

Bottle. Crisp filtered-looking gold with porous firm head that leaves a large amount of lacing. Some yeast in the bottom of the bottle for a bit of a cloudy finish. Sharp hop flavour and peppery flavour make this a different but tasty wheat. Not your norma wheat beer but enjoyable nonetheless.

Draught, at C’Est What Spring Festival, May 29, 2010. Very bubbly and hazy light gold with a solid lasting straw-coloured head. The aroma is very, very grassy-bitter - my notes go on about it smelling awesome but nothing like a weissbier - too hoppy, hardly fruity at all, some alcohol coming through the spicy grassiness (even asked the bartender if it were the right beer) - later someone pointed out that it’s inspired by TF Gumballhead - ah ha! Anyway, tastes really grassy/spicy, hardly any alcohol on the tongue, just a light bit of fruit - it seemed like a saison amped up with a ton of czech pils hops, really fresh - dug it. Solid body on it too, really lively, a bit acidic (from the hops, I would assume), with a long dry bitter finish - not overly aggressive, but it sticks around a long time. Well done. (I hear they are bottling this - I will be buying some)

Pours a bright straw yellow with a big frothy white top. Aroma is slightly subdued but mostly wheat and citrus hop. Taste is a wallop of citrus hop with a nice wheat base. Not your typical wheat beer but this one is pretty good.

Bottle (650 ml). Extra from Craig, thanks! Hazy yellow/blond with a small persistent white head, good retention and good lacing. Aroma is of wheat, lemon, pilsner malt and light spices. Taste is of wheat with spices, light malt, lemon/citrus and light herbal notes. Light body. Dry. Clean. Moderate carbonation. Very good session beer. Really enjoyable!
