Deep gold in colour with incredible aromas of citrus, tropical fruits and mango, My Bitter Wife is an IPA for the serious hop-heads out there. Full bodied, subtle malt notes with a pleasant and balanced bitterness obtained using some Simcoe, Columbus and Centennial hops, it finishes dry with a lingering hop presence that leaves you wanting more. My Bitter Wife will be sure to awaken your senses with each sip.

On tap at Bar Volo. Cloudy grapefruit with white head. Some lace, some hop aroma. Carbonation is right there. Drinkability is OK, average mouthfeel. Servceable American style IPA

On tap @ Beer Brothers Bistro in Ottawa. Medium orange, clear, lacy white head. Big pine and grapefruit nose, more pine on the palate, quite resinous, low malt sweetness, long bitterness. These guys are nailing the hoppy brews, another fantastic IPA!

UPDATED: NOV 14, 2011 2011-11-10. Very lightly hazy orange body with a small white head. 3+ Lovely citrusy flavour, lots of orange and tangerine, bit if grapefruit seed particularly in the finish. 9+ Similar aroma tons of citrus, orange, kiss of lemon. 9+ Smooth average bodied palate. 3+ Extremely drinkable. Wow! Caught me at the right time, I expect it might not knock my socks off quite as much another day, but today it was exceptional! 9/4/9/3/18 - 4.3 On tap at Rhino for Project X as Burt Reynolds Reserve Stache IPA

2011-05-13. Lightly hazy orange body with a tiny beige head and some floaties. Flavour has a modest bitterness throughout, lightly herbaceous green hops. 6+ Aroma is pleasant, green leafy overtones over a muddled but pleasant citrus profile. 7+ Smooth average palate is very lightly carbonated. 7/3/7/3/15 - 3.5 Volo IPA Cask Challenge

2009-11-12. Hazy golden yellow, modest white head. 3+ Leafy citrusy hops in the aroma are very nice. Flavour starts similarly with leafy notes, modest citrus, grapefruit, very brief touch of astringent bitterness. 7+ Smooth average plus bodied palate. Pretty solid, more drinkable than the last batch of Redneck IPA. 8/3/7/3/18 - 3.7 Cask at the brewery.

My Bottom Line:
Oranges, flowers and resins provide plenty of juicy hoppiness in this otherwise sticky IPA.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam covers the cloudy honey blond.
-Carbonation is quite low.
-Mouthfeel could be crisper and flavors better defined (maybe a question of freshness?).
-Hops aren’t as aromatic as they are flavorful.
-Residual sugar level is relatively high.

On tap at Volo.

Cask at the Rhino. Nose is intensely grapefruit. Light resinousness. A little bit fruity and quite earhy. Very assertive bitterness and a heavy resinous hoppiness. Soft and fresh with loads of citrus skin. The cask treatment works very well for this one.

Bitter evergreen hops flavour has a little twig green spruce throughout. Medium body. Very tasty and drinkable, a little green but certainly not in a bad way. (8/3/8/3/17) 3.9

Pours golden clear with good head and lacing. Smells nice and fruity. Finishes mildly bitter, actually less than the devil made me hop it pale ale I just had from Great Lakes. Pretty thick consistency. Tap at,volos.

(Rating #5850)

blankboy (7689) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 9, 2010
Draught at Volo. Pours a hazy copper-gold with an average size lasting creamy off-white head. Some decent lacing. Aroma: Not bad, quite malty, caramel or toffee, some fruit -- could stand to be hoppier. Flavour: Again, malty with the hops in the back, but it does have a nice, slightly spicy bitter finish. Average bodied. Could be better, it’s malty for the style but still pretty good overall.

Radek Kliber (7352) - Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), POLAND - MAR 25, 2011
