341ml bottle, 5% a/v
From the Ontario Craft Brewers 6 pack at the LCBO.
Pours a deep red amber with a medium tan head. Metal, caramel, and almost lactic acid bitterness invade the nose, while the tongue detects malt flavour with little else. smooth on the finish.
As the last two have now said, GLB makes fantastic seasonals, but this is just too incredibly average to be any good. JesseM (1158) - Margaritaville, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 4, 2007
341ml bottle from my Ontario Craft brewers pack. Pours a dark amber colour with a large beige, almost pink head. The aroma is metallic, caramalts, and a touch of hops, with a hint of something sour? The taste is kind of bland, mostly just malts, but the finish and aftertaste is cool and refreshing. I’m never all that impressed with American dark lagers, and this is no exception. Yeah, it’s smooth and easy drinking, but would it kill them to add some sort of distinct flavour(s) at all? VeloVampire is right, the seasonal brews from Great Lakes are definitely something special respectively, but beers like this really are benign, run-of-the mill and unimpressive. Too bad. UPDATED: DEC 5, 2007 341 ml bottle from the Ontario Craft Brewers Discovery Pack - pours a dark amber with a small white head. Fairly sweet, malty aroma, but a good amount of grain in there too. A lightly toasty quality as well. More toastiness in the mouth, with slightly less-than-average carbonation. Faint, dry finish, with some lingering alcohol. Ok, but where this brewery really shines is with their seasonal ales. Stick to those (and steer clear of the benign lagers) and you’re fine.... tomthompson89 (1982) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 27, 2007

UPDATED: OCT 29, 2007 [442-20070726] Sample @ LCBO-Summerhill. Smells like dead fish cakes lightly sprinkled with urine. Clear, amber brown body with a quick bubbly white head. Light wheat flavour is mostly malty grain only with a hint of fish. Light-medium body. Aroma is unappealing. (3/3/4/2/8) 2.0

[619B-20070916] Sample @ Feast of Fields (Hillsburgh, ON). Sweet almost sickly grain aroma. Clear, amber red body with a medium-lasting foamy off-white head. Fruity malt and grainy wheat flavour with a bit of honey. Grainy medium body. Not bad, almost repeatable but for a weird sweetness. (5/3/6/2/11) 2.7
Another Dark Lager, how many lagers can one small brewery make!? two dark lagers, and one pale lager. Come on guys! you have made some great seasonals in the winter ale, the devils pale, and the orange peel ale. To be honest, i did a side by side with the black jack lager, and i dont see a difference.
(Rating #708) Nekronos (4175) - Xalapa, MEXICO - SEP 15, 2006
Great foam but flavourless. I t gives a sensation of alcoholic content in great ammounts. NOT very special. Iknowgreatbeer (5) - Newmarket, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 24, 2006 does not count
Bottle - reminds me of Ricards Red. Not great but not bad either. The aroma wasn’t offensive. Sweet aftertaste Lubiere (13915) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 6, 2006
Red copper lager with a collapsing off white head. Aroma of sweet wet dough. In mouth, sweet fruity malt, with notes of phenolics, and very thin bodied, short in mouth. Not bad, just plain and boring.
