December 6, 2013 - at Bar Hop - on draught. Opaque black with a smallish light brown head. Simple and appealing aroma - light roast and herbal bitterness, no alcohol. Taste follows but a huge iron/mineral tang added - tons of flavour, and very dry too. Average to light body, slick, mild carbonation, nice building herbal bitterness in the minerally finsh - a solid quaffer.

[6073-20131127] Tap. Roasted malt and burnt toast crumbs aroma. Black body with a medium-lasting foamy dark brown head. More burnt toast and roasted grains in the flavour. Full big body is certainly not boozy but the bitterness is deceptive. Tasty, quite roasted and filling though. (7/3/8-/3/15) 3.6

650ml Project X bottle from GLB. Pours nearly black with a three finger, dark mocha head that thins and leaves good looking lacing. Looks great. Aroma has big notes of bitter and milk chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt. Yum. Taste is balanced. Starts off slightly fruity then quickly moves to notes of roasted coffee and chocolate ending in an almost espresso bitter finish. Medium-full body with a medium carbonation. Full and creamy in the mouth with an almost prickly carbonation and a dry finish. Overall very tasty. Large roasted malt notes with a bold bitterness. So much flavour for 3.7%. Would get again in a heartbeat.

On tap at Hardrock 42 in Sudbury. Black pour, big mocha head. Great roasted malt aromas, touches of cocoa, and coffee, with some very slight, but present resinous hops. The mouth feel is perfect along with the carb. The finish is green, with a great subtle, yet solid dose of piney, resinous hops. These hops balance incredibly well with the solid roasted malt flavors. At 3.7% this is a great session porter, excellent!

(On tap at Bryden’s, Jan 11 2013) Pours black with a decent head of dense pale tan froth, faded fairly slowly leaving a carpet of lace. Aroma roast malt-forward, somewhat sweet, light cocoa and coffee accents, a little fruity hop on the nose too. Flavour again has roasted malts to the fore, the roast not super-high though leaving some real nice malt sweetness and heft. Milk chocolate and light coffee too, some raisin-like fruitiness that could be combined malt/hops. Finish has light roast and a little hops, lightly bitter and a touch ’green’, lingering malt. Body fairly light but impressive for ABV, carb fairly soft. I was really impressed by substance and depth of flavour for the ABV, and it’s extremely drinkable. Great job.

On tap at Volo. A nice dark brown nitro pour with a large, creamy light tan head. Aroma is quite roasty with chocolate malts and hints of anise. Flavour likewise - quite impressive given the ABV. Creamy nitro mouthfeel. Lingering roast in finish. This is full of flavour but ridiculously easy to drink.

[Draught at Bar Hop] Pours a nice-looking, very dark amber-brown, almost black, with an average size long-lasting creamy beige head and lots of lacing on the glass. Mild but pleasant aroma of roasted malt and notes of vanilla, coffee and chocolate. Flavour of roasted malt, light coffee, milk chocolate and a really quick finish. Average to medium bodied. Simple, like the name says, but quite enjoyable as well.

Nitro at Bar Hop. Good roast. Big black, oily mouthfeel. Back to basics from all the fruity stuff on.

Dark black pour with a thick tan head. The aroma is great. A lot of light chocolate and some roasted coffee along with a bit of chewy malt sweetness. Has a surprising amount of body and sweetness with a touch of peppery character. Lovely beer.
