One of the best beers on the market. Smooth, flavorful yet very drinkable.

This is my all time favorite lager. Just the right balance between hops and malt. Gorgeous golden color. I've had this on wonderful draft at Great Lakes but bottle is excellent. rygjones (4) - Ohio, USA - JAN 30, 2012 does not count
I don’t want to comment eighty five characters.. just wanted to say it is a personal favorite of mine.. Ohio gold. Stupid comment length requirements piss me off KNOFAC (14) - Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 30, 2011
Bottle. Pours golden with an orange-ish tint. The head is thin and doesn’t retain too well. The aroma is fresh apples, maybe a little pear, some orange, and a dash of caramel. It all blends together so well, it’s intoxicating. The flavor hits well in all areas. The citrus notes hit your senses first, then the caramel, then finally, a nice clean hop finish that makes it’s presence known, but isn’t overwhelming. The mouthfeel is light, bordering on medium. This brew is substantial in flavor, but light enough to not leave you bloated after 1 or 2. The ABV is near 6%, which surprises me given the relative lightness in mouthfeel.
This brew is very much on point, and easily my favorite to date. My only complaint is that it’s just a tad bit heavy on the carbonation side, and there’s not much head to speak of. Other than that, it’s just about perfect. SPDickerman (1239) - Texas, USA - AUG 18, 2012
Pours pale golden with a large white head. Smells of biscuit and mild spicy hops. Taste is a little dry, bread and biscuit, spicy and earthy. Medium-bodied with a smooth texture and soft mouth-carbonation, Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold finishes with a mild earthy bitterness.

The Best Lager I have ever had. Must be drank within 3 months of production slats1221 (60) - Ohio, USA - FEB 8, 2012
It’s not surprise this beer has won awards. A great beer with great flavor. One of those beers you could drink several and never get overwhelmed. One of my favorites. BillaFly (10) - Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 21, 2014
This is what lager should taste like. Pours a nice light golden color. Not too much carbonation but enough. Light malt profile and enough hops to balance out. Now my favorite lager. Is this what lager tasted like 150 years ago? dbutler4699 (13) - Elyria, Ohio, USA - DEC 8, 2000
Great looking beer; fine, long-lasting head, beautiful amber color. I put this in a class with some other great beers - Sam Adams Boston Lager and Crooked River ESB. raindog (560) - Evansville, Indiana, USA - JUL 29, 2002
UPDATED: MAY 18, 2005 Re-Rate:11/17/03 Got more as part of a sampler and like more and more every time.Top 10 for me,for sure! Deep, golden color with a beautiful, white, active head.Thickness makes the heavy carbonation slow and almost unappearent. Great ale-like estery flavors.Huge sugar-sweet front followed with soft, smooth, earthy, malts. The leafy smack of hops in the finish is very appealing. It gets some german malt sweetness in the finish also as it warms. Traveled to the brewery in March, and it tasted even more delicate and delicious draft.Bottle showed more resemblence than I expected. Excellent beer anytime. If not perfect, very near.
