Bottle (12 oz). Traded by northropfrye, thanks Andrew! Dark brown with a medium mostly lasting beige head and some lacing. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt and chocolate. Taste is about the same but smoother with hoppy hints. Mouthfeel is a bit thin compared to aroma and taste. Slight acidic presence. Great complexity for a low abv beer. A very good and easy to drink porter.

DATE: April 27, 2017... OCCASION: uncapping an Ohio classic--how havent I had this already?!--as I expect the Browns to finally find a classic of their own (Myles Garrett?)... GLASSWARE: Stoudts autographed pint...pours a nice, dark body that floats a thick brown head, fluffy and effervescent enough... brilliant, thick chocolate, coffee bean, roasted toffee, slight caramel, suppressed hoppiness--slight citrus, yes... boldly announces itself at just 5.8% ABV... instantaneous warmth, with a thick creaminess that acts as a dessert unto itself... peat and chocolate linger at the finish, while teeth buzz with hoppy presence.... medium-bodied, tremendously drinkable... avoids the cola cliche of lesser porters, with the sweet, peaty finish that evokes a scotch ale...caramel, coffee, oak, and soft vanilla--a lot packed into this one... versatile, powerful, rewarding--like Myles Garrett?--and another victory for one of the best things going for Cleveland... what a great everyday porter, as the style was no doubt intended to be...

The porter to compare all other American porters to, EF is superbly roast with deep coffee and blackstrap molassses tones. Super drinkable but hearty. Pours dark brown and leaves long legs of tan lacing. Robust yet pairable with any pub grub. True to Its English roots.

most memorable factor being the sexy branding but also the chalky milk cocoa character. feels good on the taste buds lol. didnt seem quite as complex as people are telling it, but great none the less.

12floz bottle with a BBD of 07.24.2017. Paid $10 as a single in a mix-six, six-packs go for about the same in the Metro-East area of St. Louis. Ive had this before, and it still holds up as the champ of American porters available. Dark in appearance with little light able to shine through. Smells like brown sugar oatmeal, which transcends to perfect moderately roasted and semi-sweet palate. Im always satisfied when I drink this beer. Its well balanced, possesses simple complexity (oxymoron, yeah but its an apt description), and immensely flavorful and drinkable. I could go on to detail broad verbiage about how it tastes, but no need as it pins the style down with a blue ribbon from me.

This beer is everything you would want in a porter. Great Lakes has always produced quality product and this is no different. Full body with a clean finish. The main quality of this porter is it delivers a bold flavor while avoiding a bitter aftertaste. If youve never tried a porter before, this is a great one to try.

Served from bottle into glass at home. Pours black with strong sepia colored head. Somewhat underwhelming mild roasted malt aroma with hint of coffee. What was lacking in aroma is more than made up for in flavor. Classic porter taste, creamy roasty toasty malt and subdued chocolate and coffee notes. Low medium bitterness, like dark chocolate and no detectable hops. Smooth mouthfeel, low carbonation and superb drinkability.

Bottle. It poured black with a mocca head. The aroma was dark chocolate and coffee bean. The flavor includes roasted malt, chocolate and some light dark fruits. It has a thin oily mouth feel. I liked this the first time I had it in Cleveland years ago and I still think it is a very good Porter.
