Bottle. Appearance - nearly black with ruby highlights. Tan head dissipates to long-lasting lace cap. Smell - dark chocolate and roasted coffee beans. Taste - hop bitterness balances the malt sweetness flawlessly! Mouthfeel - medium body with refreshing carbonation. Overall - a flawless porter that goes perfect with BBQ ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A wonderful Porter. Smooth, medium bodied, Nice complexity. Perfectly balanced bitter sweetness. Soft carbonation. Notes of strong black coffee and unsweetened cocoa. I love this beer. This time it was more difficult to drink too intense and bitter. I did have it rated 4.6 But I am going to knock it down to 4.0 until trying again Right now I am drinking a Fullers London Porter and I notice the Edmund Fitzgerald is very similar it just amps up all the characters of fullers I've had this a number of times now. I love this beer. I notice I never mentioned it is better as it warms up a bit, It really Mellows and smooths out. Bumped it back up to a 4.5 July 2017. Yum August 2017 this has been my go to beer lately ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

If you are into porters, this is among the best. Deep palate, hints of coffee and roast. Dark color.

Toast. Malt. Hint of coffee. Hint of earth. Dark brown almost black. Quarter inch medium tan head that just stays and stays. Burnt toast. Sharp finish. Earthy. Just screams "classic Porter". ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 fl oz bottle from Sam The Beer Man, Binghamton, NY. Pours out in a darkest red brown. Nearly two finger beige head. A lot of dark malt and choco on the nose. Taste ist smooth, choco, coffee, dark malty and present hop, hints of berriefruits. Intensive. Very low carbonated. Long lasting aftertaste with some bitterness. Really nice one.

Bottle from Consumers Beverage. This one’s reputation precedes it. Excellent throughout. Near black pour with tight, creamy beige head, leaves rings of lacing all the way down. Aroma is chocolate, roast malts, coffee. Taste is sweet, chocolate, burnt toast. Feel is creamy and slick. Sweet bitterness lingers. Perfect porter, benchmark for the style.

Dark brown appearance. Aroma is malty with chocolate. Taste is cola with chocolate. More of a bitter finish.

Was finally able to snag a bottle of this while on a recent trip up North, brought it home to SC and currently enjoying this outside on a beautiful cool spring afternoon. This exceptional rendition of a classic American porter pours a dark brown-black color with translucent highlights of ruby-brown, and has a bright off-white khaki head. Lots of foam and bubbles at the top but not as much lacing from this bottle. Regardless, this brew releases a fresh roasty chocolate malt aroma with notes of wood smoke and mocha. Flavor features a dark slightly smokey cocoa and coffee bean maltiness along with a mild but recognizable northwest hoppy bitterness, and finishes with a bittersweet dark chocolate taste. A hint of vanilla was also present. The hoppiness is clean and herbal, which distinguishes this from the more earthy hops of this brew’s London porter cousins. This beer has a surprisingly light-medium body given the complexity of the flavor, distinctly smooth and refreshing on the palate for a porter. A great example of balanced drinkability with complexity, light enough to drink casually but sophisticated enough to sip and savor. I would love to find this one again, would be a go-to porter for me if only there was the availability down south.
