COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Deep Amber red color, with a fragrant malt aroma. Flavorful notes of rich caramelized malt and noble hop flavors harmonize on the palate leading to a crisp clean finish. Named after one of Cleveland’s most respected safety directors, who frequented the brewpub’s bar during his tenure from 1935-1941 and, according to popular legend, was responsible for the bullet holes still evident today.

UPDATED: AUG 3, 2005 Re-Rated from draft at GLBC in Cleveland: Sweet amber color, kind of lemony, but not unpleasantly so. Very Mellow malts, just a touch of caramel. Hops are equally mellow, with just a little bitterness and graininess. A slight flourish of poerter malts toward the end.
Original rating: 9/16/03, Score: 4.1 Draft. Did not even realize this was a lager beer, thought it was more of a brown ale (that’s a compliment). A nice creamy head, almost stoutlike. Had a good beery smell with a touch of fruitiness that led me to think this was an ale. A complex hop taste that I thought had more American hops that the normal German ones. A delightful brew that stands out at any autumn party.

Pours Amber and translucent with a tan/off-white head with an aroma of caramel malt. Tastes of caramel malt with mild hop bitterness, yeast with a hint of lager acetic acid. There is a little booze in the finish as well. It’s medium bodied with lively carbonation. The hops are earthy, fresh and resinous and mostly absent of bitter pine which balances well with the malt. It finishes dry. This is more robust than expected.

Pours a slight red color with a creamy but sparse head and average lacing. Candy aroma, like honey? Slightly aqueous. Flavorful! Not bad.

Pours a mostly clear golden brown from the bottle with bubbly white head that leaves moderate lace. Aroma of mild bready sweetness and a touch of citrus and earthy hop notes. Taste is toasted and caramel malt notes over a clean hoppy finish, but not bitter. Solid for what it is.

Need to try it when I am not so buzzed. But I like it quite a bit at the moment. A nice hop forward with a nice long-lasting bitter finish. Slightly nutty ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12floz, BBD: 09.27.2017, ~$1.75 unit equivalent, pint glass. An amber lager with clarity and small dirty white head. Corn flake and caramel sets the tone in the aroma, and further in the full bodied palate. I find this to be too heavy handed, it could be a bit thinner in body and be a fine session beer. Instead it feels like a syrupy malt bomb.Perhaps if I look at this more as a Marzen or American amber, then it works as a worthy beer for certain moments.

UPDATED: JUL 30, 2017 It's a very good session-able beer. I will always be happy to sit back with a six pack and a Fire and friends and drink this nice malty Vienna lager. Or to have it with Chinese as I just did.

(12oz bottle) AROMA: sweet grain/corn, touch of tropical fruit, underlying spice and moist tobacco, some sourness, yeast. APPEARANCE: clear Amber, medium froth, head sustained, a bit oily. TASTE: Rich maltiness, dark chocolate, raisin, dried fruit, jam, earthy. PALATE: solid medium body, round, relatively robust, smooth and oily with some dry graininess on the tongue/cheeks at the finish. OVERALL: very nice Amber lager, ale-like in some ways but with the crispness and drinkability of a lager. One of the best Vienna/Amber lagers that I’ve had. Only small negative is it is a bit alcoholy tasting.

Poured a deep amber with minimal head and lacing. Aromas of sweet roasted malts with a light hint of fruitiness. Taste is deep caramel with a slight breadiness and light hop finish. Palate is very solid. Overall, one of the better ambers I have tasted in a while. Will definitely buy it again at some point.
