Golden color with medium head. Pleasent hop flavor and finished with a good balance of bitter and malt. Very drinkable with light meal.

This is the first GLBC beer with which I have not been very impressed. This is good for a standard Lager I suppose, but not really for a Helles. Dortmunder Gold really blows this one away. Pours a darker good color with a medium thin head. Quick lacing and the head did not last very long. Aroma is somewhat sweet malt, with a little hops as well. Rather light with a decent malt profile, along with a light hops presence. The finish is light hops. The beer is definitely easy to drink but it is not challenging in any way.

UPDATED: APR 29, 2007 Bottle... Mostly clear and light golden in color. Tiny particles dispersed evenly throughout the glass (I hope the glass was clean). Small, fizzy white head. Quickly diminishing with no lacework left behind. The nose is lightly malty, lightly floral, very citrusy and alcoholic with a metallic/copper note. A perfectly balanced beer. Lightly malty up front; citrusy/lemony and tangy on the backside. Did someone slip a lemon wedge into my beer? Those particles must be pulp. Light-bodied with a watery mouthfeel and fizzy carbonation. Not one of my favorite styles of beer, but pretty darn good for the style. Very refreshing Summer beer!

Thanks to atpayne for this. Pours slight turbid gold with medium white head. Aroma of malt, slight hopcit. Has a Hellesy taste, with some hopcit and slight corn syrup at the finish.

Clear golden with a puffy white head. Weak musty hop and dry malt aroma. Standard dry, bland lager body. Little flavor, but smooth. A little disappointed by Great Lakes on this beer.

Bottle pours a slightly hazy pale yellow, small white foamy head, heavy carbonation, with spotty lacing.   Sweet grass, malts, and a slight sulfer note on the nose.   Forwardly sweet malts, with a bit of straw or hay.   Light body, with a lightly spritzy mouthfeel.   Finishes quickly, with only a trace of sweet malts and grass.   Decent, but nothing exceptional.   Thanks goes out to atpayne for the trade!

Straw yellow and quickly fading head, no lacing, thin-bodied. Mild aroma with fruity hints. Soapy taste ruined this beer for me, disappointing from such a well respected microbrewery. Try the Dortmunder Gold.

Very light golden colour, even for a lager it was too light. The aroma was made up of a slight hoppyness and some good smelling fruit. While this aroma was pleasant, it was also very mild. The taste was twice as mild as the aroma. I don't believe I tasted much other than a very basic hop and malt flavouring. I loved Great Lakes' other beers, but this was a pretty big disapointment, even for a Lager! Try the Burning River if you are looking for some good flavours.

Slightly hazed straw color with a dense finger of white foam and heavy lace. Light citrus and malt aromas. Very clean. Crisp sweet malt and lightly green hops bitterness toward the finish. Has some dry grain flavors mid quaff. A touch more malt would make this a real winner in my book, but as it is its good, just nothing to out of the ordinary in the pale lage department. Very nice malt linger.

Light gold color. Small to medium sized very foamy head. Aroma is bready and citrusy. A medium to light bodied Dort/Helles. Malts are bready, fruity and sweet. Mild hops. Tastes like a slightly toned down version of the Dortmunder Gold. Still has a nice malt/hop profile, just a little less of both. Mild flavored beer, a huge step up from Bud. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.
