3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
From a bottle into a pub style glass. Pours a medium red, clear, with a slightly tan head that retains quite well. Aroma started out with a sweet/citrus/hops that was almost candy like just as it was poured, to being a fairly mild, more piney hop as it settled. Pleasant, but weak. Flavour, on the other hand, it’s good and strong. Very well balanced, a bit more towards the malt which is rich carmel offset with strong toastyness and roastyness, a little coffee even. Hops are still quite prevalent, tasting, well, hoppy, rather than specifically piney or floral or citrusy. Body is a slightly heavy medium, with a bit of stickyness, and a good bit of bitterness (perhaps augmented by alcohol) causing a little tinglyness. A little more bitterness in feel at the end than I would prefer, but otherwise, this is a darn fine beer. Very refreshing for how big a beer it is.
On tap at the Buffalo Brew Pub. Very hoppy strong ale, but still balanced well. brigg (704) - New York, USA - SEP 14, 2017

Pours amber and translucent with a tanhead with an aroma of sweet hopped malt. Tastes of malt and booze with a nice hop finish with mild bitterness. It's rich, slightly sweet malt. It's mostly full bodied with moderate carbonation. It's very well balanced and very good. bwy (94) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 19, 2017
Strong malt backbone but at the same time a bitter taste. Leaves an interesting aftertaste that was not always simple.

Deep amber, reddish pour with thick foam. Rich, hoppy aroma with a strong caramel malt backbone. The taste is more balanced, but the finish is definately bitter. The 8.0% ABV probably contributes to this. Certainly rich and a well-blended variation of a pale ale. One of Great Lakes’ stronger offerings.

Strange aroma. Basement? Spicy. Maybe pie spices? This is hard to pin down. Lots of fizz. Has rye? Quite good. ANZUShophunter (507) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - OCT 31, 2016
On tap at Guthrie’s Tavern, Chicago. A nice copper hue with a hoppy nose but not as strong as some ASA’s. There is nice hop/malt balance that makes this quite smooth for an 8%er. Hoppy Halloween! voyageurmike (500) - Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 25, 2016
