Best by 11/14/2013. Pours our a blood red color with tan head. Smells like tangerines (blood oranges?), grapefruit and pine with some sweet malts. Tastes like more of the same, sweet up front with citrus and some slight tropical fruits. Some alcohol warming, perfect for cooler days of fall. Wish I could still find it for a cold Halloween eve. Mouthfeel is rich and full. Overall a wonderful hoppy stock ale that I look forward to every early fall.

Strong malt backbone but at the same time a bitter taste. Leaves an interesting aftertaste that was not always simple.

Deep amber, reddish pour with thick foam. Rich, hoppy aroma with a strong caramel malt backbone. The taste is more balanced, but the finish is definately bitter. The 8.0% ABV probably contributes to this. Certainly rich and a well-blended variation of a pale ale. One of Great Lakes’ stronger offerings.

On tap at Guthrie’s Tavern, Chicago. A nice copper hue with a hoppy nose but not as strong as some ASA’s. There is nice hop/malt balance that makes this quite smooth for an 8%er. Hoppy Halloween!

UPDATED: OCT 21, 2016 This brew has a luscious aroma and it pours thick. Rich amber red in color. Carbonation level is enough to present a nice head and low enough to not take away from the drink enjoyment with interference. Overall this brew didn’t offer me what I had expected. All the way up to the moment I got it into my mouth I was ready for incredible. I’m afraid my taste was off so I hope to be re-rating this one and improving at the least, my overall score. 10/21/16 had another bottle and it did taste better to me. 12 oz. bb 11/10/2016. Clear copper-amber with a sticky thin covering of foam. Nose of earthy molasses, tea leaf, potato and a hint of dry cocoa. Tastes of the same mix, but with some added earthiness and some wooden-grassy hop. Medium body has mostly smooth medium-plus carbonation and an earthy-dry slant.
