My palate normally doesnt enjoy these types of beers, but I actually liked this a lot. Something that stood out was the cool dark red color, much darker than what the picture indicates. Smooth finish.

Had this at Great Lakes brewpub. Great Bock. Nice dark redish gold color with a stong malty fruit, carmel flavors. Just like the commercial description, for once! I was very please with complexity of the hops and malt balance. A very smooth beer. Well Done! My favorite of the evening. Have this with the Old World Burger. Youll love the combination of the malts with the barbacue sauce and pretzel bun.

Sampled from 12-oz bottle during Darkness Day 2009 in Brooklyn Center, MN. Pours a semi-clear dark brown colored brew with a thick off-white head that has some nice retention. Aroma of roasted dark malt, some dark pitted fruit, flowery hops and a touch of coffee. Taste is medium bodied, flavors of roasted dark malt, toffee, some chocolate and floral hops. Finish is semi-sweet some chocolate and a hint of raisin aftertaste.

On tap at GLBC. Dark brown pour with a medium tan head. Malty aroma with caramel, coffee and a hop balance. Slightly sweet caramel flavor up front with a bitter coffee and nuts flavor on the back end. Very good and the most fuller bodied than most bocks that dont have "doppel" in front of them.

Bottle 24 OZ: Pours a medium clear amber with a long lasting thick head. Theres a hint a citrus, not overwhelming. The taste is unique; somewhat spicy, the flavor pops. Tickles the palate with extra fizz. I would recommend to a beer lover; like myself.

In short: A very nice earthy Bock. Very drinkable
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Clear light amber body with a medium beige head
In long: Pleasant nose of earthy toasted malts. Taste continues in that direction with earthy notes, crusty bread, light caramel and toffee, plenty of leafy hops. An overall impression of autumnal dry tree leaves. Body and carbonation are smooth. No alcohol apparent. Dangerously highly drinkable. Very filling and nourishing, the body is almost as rich as the family it is named after.

Draft at BMRAF 08. Poured brown color with an average frothy white head that mostly diminished with fair lacing. Moderate to heavy caramel & fruit aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture. Medium bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations were met.

Firkin version at Barleys 6th Annual Mini RAF (04/26/08): This brew pours a dark brown color with garnet around the edges and a medium thin beige head that dissipates quickly. Spotty lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, sweet caramel and a bit of dark fruit. Medium, smooth body with flavors of bready malt, dark chocolate and raisins. The finish is a little thin with a short malt and toffee finish. Above average overall.
