3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
This is a big, ole sticky IPA and even thought it’s "only" 7.5% alcohol, it could probably pass as a IIPA in most circles. It has pine and tropical fruit notes in the nose and a lovely, glowing orange color. A bold malt sweetness and subdued carbonation make this feel like a slow sipper and server to emphasize the earthiness and grassiness in the finish. This isn’t bad for those who like their beers to be big upon big but I am tending to prefer hoppy styles be more dry and drinkable these days.
Lightly hazed golden liquid with a modest, but stable heavy cream colored head. Fresh hops, light fruit, citric peel, and a touch of rough resin (7+). Full feel, yet plenty of zip. Big malt flavors. Floral to soapy hops. Quite bitter, but decent balance with the malt sweetness. 4/13

DATE: May 27, 2016... OCCASION:having negotiated the long week, I welcome the Memorial Day weekend with The Fellowship of the Ring, the Cavs’ hopeful ECF-clinching win, and whatever else comes our way... APPEARANCE: dark, dense and approaching a tiger’s orange-amber body... white head forms a two-finger cream that settles to coral striping and a strong surf on the surface... high-arching lace forms a distinct cloud line... effervescence is slow and steady but uneventful... AROMA: a nice bourbon and pepper draw early, after which stone fruit, melon, mango and some astringent esters... PALATE: full-bodied, intense and active on the teeth, with a vibrant, lingering aftertaste... chunky and chewy and suckable, if possible... a meal in itself... TASTE: a strong, spicy bite--pepper, allspice and warm rye bread... apple and watermelon late... a bevy of characteristics compete for the tastebuds... OVERALL: what a powerful punch of hops and rye--the rye bread malts especially develop a strong profile that supports east and west coast hop tendencies... another victory for Great Lakes Brewing...

On tap at Progressive Field. A favourite style of mine, and this one doesn’t disappoint. Gold-amber with a nice white head. Citrus and caramel in the nose. The flavour is more complex, with lemon and pineapple from the hops joined by peppery rye malt. Nice bitterness level. pinkzambia (2069) - Boise, Idaho, USA - JUL 5, 2015
Bottle: Clear gold with a frothy head. Dry rubber aroma of rye followed by a well balanced hop flavor. Many times, the rye is too strong but this is just right.
