A great christmas beer. Drier than usual but this just adds to the overall drinkability. omhper (25258) - Tyresö, SWEDEN - JAN 17, 2002
Ruby coloured. A rather dry, malt dominated and unusually complex lager. Loads of subtle flavours, flowery hop aroma, and a well balanced bitterness. rarbring (2295) - Linköping, SWEDEN - DEC 5, 2012
Aroma: The smell is malty with dried fruits, which is well reflected in the taste which has tones of apricots, caramel and a malty richness.Hildigöltur (5104) - København, DENMARK - DEC 23, 2002
Appearance: A dark amber beer with a light rich beige head the leaves much on the glass.
Taste: A nice bitter tone complemented with acid.
Palate: Good envigouring carbonation.
Overall: Not as sweet as most traditional "julöl".

[Draught, Den Tatoverede Enke, Copenhagen, 2002] This is a very good bottom fermented brew. Very malty and full bodied. Slightly spicy and fruity and rather complex. I was lucky to try the draught version of this brew. All of this beer is bottled except for six barrels which was made available on draught. Den Tatoverede Enke in Copenhagen got one barrel. Mahogany to dark ruby clear body (too dark for being mentioned as amber) with fawn top on. Lacing only in lower half of the mug, wide carpet. Pours give clear body, even the last one. Scents of spices, cardamom, syrupy candies, apple peels, dark fruits, succade, leaves, caramel malts. Tastes brown caramel malts, hops, citrus aurantium, yellow apple peels, sweet brown bread, faint cardamom, fruity syrupy grassy notes, unnamed sweet spices, and even cocoa notes in aftertaste.
Mild on palate, average body, soft carbonation. Yes, this was a nice brew.

A little thin. I was too drunk when I had this beer. Pretty rare though..... JorisPPattyn (10026) - Ursel, BELGIUM - DEC 16, 2004
Fully ruby red, cola-like carbonation to amber-yellow head, fast gone. Fruity (dark fruit as plums) and bread-malty nose, Bocklike. Sweetish, liquorice. Bready taste, blueberry, tobacco, little hint of piney hops, but mostly dark, sweet malts. Rather thin, watery body. Carbonation gets fast exhausted. Lets one down after some time, after a very good start. German character, Scandinavian MF. MiP (15920) - Sønderborg, DENMARK - FEB 11, 2005
UPDATED: MAY 29, 2009 Bottle. Aroma has a hint of malt, brown sugar and metal. Brown colour, unstable head. Flavour is at first sweet and malty, turning a bit watery and then malty again. The finish is actually quite nice. Carbonation is a bit high. 4 3 6 3 14

Bottle (50 cl) from Systembolaget. Clear reddish brown, rich beige bitter head. Malty aroma with soffe roasted chocolate notes. Light to medium bodied, very soft but lively carbonation. Quite dry with low to moderate bitterness. Close to being very good, but something is lacking.
