A traditional Irish Dry Stout, Stay Dry is a pun. In St. Petersburg it is difficult to “stay dry.” Our weather is either too hot and humid to avoid a constant sweat, or our tropical storms maintain a torrential downpour rolling in off the Gulf of Mexico. This beer is light in body, black in color, and packed with malt forward flavors reminiscent of chocolate, dark caramel, and coffee.

Tap at Gambrinus. Pours pitch black with a half finger of foam that lingers. Great lacing. Light, ,acrid malt nose, toasted marshmallow. Sour coffee flavor. Light & drinkable. Clean and good carbonation. Finish is dry. Pretty good as it warms...oats?

Sample during RBWG Tampa, 2015. Deep brown with a tan head. Toasted brown bread and charred wood. Mild hints of coffee. Flavor is straightforward. Dark malts and a bit of toasted brown sugar. Dry and a touch peppery. Relatively light body, active carbonation. OK for what it is.

Keg at the brew pub, RBWG ’15, 20/02/15.
Mahogany brown with a moderate tan covering.
Nose is toffee, charr, light roast, chocolate.
Taste comprises light roast, ashen notes, toffee fudge, biscuit, spice.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close.
Ok for style.

Poured a big black with a tan head that eroded. Aroma is earth, flower pot, mild roasted malts, anise, and pencil eraser. The taste was earthy and ashen, slight dank, roasted beans and malts, peat. I oddly kind of like a dry stout that is earthy but this one was a little whack. Medium body and carb.

2/20/15. Sampled during RBWG 2015. Almost black pour under a small khaki head, mild lacing. Dry roasted malts aroma, earthy, a touch of a meaty aspect, light coffee. Mild chocolate in the flavor, acrid roasted malts, ashy, light coffee. Meh.

On tap at the brewery. No detailed notes, but a perfectly fungible dry stout.

Growler from brewery. Bit flat. Black. Boring aroma and flavor. Just a stout. Does taste dry.
