Our second collaboration with Brasserie St-Feuillien, Friendship Brew, is a Black Saison that blends European and American hops, Belgian yeast and a cache of secret spices. The aroma and flavors are enticing, with delicate fruitiness, subtle spice and rounded roast malt characteristics. Bottle conditioning provides lively carbonation and rich beer foam for a luscious body and a lean, dry finish.

Bottle from Bierkompass.de. Pours black color, thick brown head. Aroma is heavily spiced, ’julmust’ , anise, hops, yeast. Some funkiness lures behind. Flavor has toasted bread, hops, aniseed, licorice, caramel. Very dry , hoppy finish. Complex brew, really nice. I find more layers as the beer gets warmer. The aroma is very close to Anchor - our special ale.

Pours opaque dark brown with big head and good lacing. Aroma is herbal from spices and floral from hops. Taste is the same with moderate bitterness with a little herbal astringency. Moderately drinkable but wouldn't buy again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours nice dark brown with off white head. Smell is floral with spices like nutmeg and maybe oregano or pepper. Taste is pine hops, a bit grassy and bitter. Not unpleasant but can't taste the spices. Good lacing and medium mouthfeel. Okay. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: JAN 15, 2013 Big, creamy Belgian head on this Cali-Belge combo. Very noticeable fruity, floral aroma with a sprinkling of yeast and coffee. The flavor is unexpectedly sharp, dry, and tart. There are some burnt grains, and a little sourness and acidity. Not a super successful collaboration.

bottle, dark brown with big tan foam, aroma and flavor of black licorice, with herbal weak spritzy finish, not good
