Editor’s Note: The 6.5% abv European version is listed under St Feuillien

Our second collaboration with Brasserie St-Feuillien, Friendship Brew, is a Black Saison that blends European and American hops, Belgian yeast and a cache of secret spices. The aroma and flavors are enticing, with delicate fruitiness, subtle spice and rounded roast malt characteristics. Bottle conditioning provides lively carbonation and rich beer foam for a luscious body and a lean, dry finish.

Ungstrup (38140) - Citizen of the universe, DENMARK - JAN 19, 2013
Bottled. A black beer with a huge brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, bread, caramel, and a bit of spices. The flavor is sweet with notes of cardemomme, yeast, roasted malt, and bread, leading to roasted finish. The style doesn’t impress me.

Bottle. Black (duh), brown head, solid lacing. Aroma of dark cocoa, subtle licorice. Taste is similar, in a combo with coffee that really doesn’t work.

Black Country Beano. Outbound train tasting! Dark brown beer, not quite clear. Tidy pale tan head. Light softish palate, airy and a little dry. Tangy Coca Cola and generic fruits. Mellow spice. Little cinnamon. Finishes light and dry with a little spice bitterness in the aftertaste.

Papsoe (25062) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - MAR 20, 2013
Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of yespr. Pours a clear black with a reddish hue and a small, creamy beige head. Odd aroma, licorice and white pepper, somewhat vperfumy too. Medium body, some roast, a little cardboard and a rather bitter finish. A strange hybrid - the idea behind this was probably better than the actual result. But a good looking beer it is.... 200313
