Our American-style Barleywine undergoes a three hour boil to intesify the caramel malts and the enormous Pacific Northwest hop charge. The result is a rich, estery brew with toffee notes and citrus hop flavors layered throughout. Enjoy this brew fresh today or lay it down for aging to see how the flavors of each vintage evolve.

Bomber into tulip. Smokey, coppery ember red and barmy khaki head. Resiney-piney hop aroma, caramel and cookiedough, lifesaver candies. Toffeeish malt flavor; the hop character is both intensely fruity and profoundly "deep", resembling bitter chocolate. Potent alcohol begins warm, but finishes with a minty tingle. Full, rich, buttery palate. Incredible.

From Jan 2007

Poured from 22oz bottle a clear amber gold with a small head of foam that shrinks quickly but still leaves a fine layer right down to the last taste and....it has plenty of nice lacing.

The smell is a fairly strong mix of hops and malt with some sourish notes.

The taste on first sip has a huge caramel malt presense that is supported by good citrus hops and none of the sourness that I mentioned in the nose. Yum. The more sips I take, the more balanced the flavours become to my palate and it makes for some great drinkabilty despite the 10%abv which, btw, is surprisingly well hidden. I'm liking this one and I'll be sure to seek it out again when I next visit Colorado.

Bottom line: This is one solid BWSA that I have no qualms about recommending!

Vintage 2010, blue label. The beer starts intense sticky. Round and deep, refreshing with a nice and deep roasted body. Lots of sticky grain in the aftertaste, Sweetish with bitter hops. Deep, rich and sticky sweetish. Nice.

Pours a dark orange with a light brown lasting head. Aroma includes malt, caramel, fruits and liquorice with some alcoholic notes. Flavor is a nice blend of sweetness and bitterness with some alcohol traces. Thick body with a balanced carbonation and a long semi-sour end.

Draft at City Tap House. Dark amber, tight silky head. Boozy, malty aroma, mildly sweet. Taste leads with the booze, some nice caramelly malts, molasses and toffee. Warmth and plenty of it.

Green Flash Barleywine is aggressive in all the right ways. This beer is intensely hoppy and intensely malty. While the hops gain the upper hand, there’s enough malt in here to control the bitterness. Tastes like English toffee finished by citrusy hops. For all the booze and Pacific Northwestern hops, I couldn’t help feeling that this Barleywine drank a lot easier than it should have. It may be intense, but the balance is done brilliantly.

Bottle at home. Pours deep amber, nose is caramel, toffee, biscuit, taste is sweet, toffee, caramel, dry, boozy.

Draft. Hug malty and cascade type hop Jose. Deep orange to red with medium light tan head. Taste is huge in hop bitterness and malt chewiness. Decent Garbage.

Zymurgeist2 (2385) - Redwood City, California, USA - SEP 15, 2016
Draught at Harry’s Hofbrau. Weirdly pleasing blend of both rich caramel malt and citrus hops. Clear copper with surprisingly well retained white head. Flavor follows aroma, but there is a sharp bitterness on the back half of the palate that prevents this from being top notch. Meadow and fresh cut grass appear in the flavor as it warms. tasty.
