On tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad. Had this after Winter Storm and it easily rivaled any of Stone’s offerings. Pours black with a ruby sheen and a faint brown head. Tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad. This is some fine, fine work by Green Flash. Nice smooth aroma of dark chocolate and subtle hop and whiskey. The flavor is like a wadded up coffee browney with bourbon sauce - really unified, almost sharpened to an edge. Reminded me exceedingly of RB Chi’s Redline and if this is what the bourbon version of that tastes like I totally get why it was a Top 50. Flash! One of my favorite imperial stouts of the year laid on Bourbon Barrels. In the non barrel aged version, the luscious chocolate flavor dominated, but now, there is a much more chewy, earthy, bourbon and vanilla presences. Took a pretty straightforward Imperial and turned it on end. Hints of oat, caramel and toffee notes. There is a more of a warming in this beer, and more complexity and dryness in the finish.

(11/2/08) Draught sample at Hamilton’s in San Diego. Black-colored with a big light brown head. Aroma of bourbon, pralines and some dark fruity notes. Sweet flavor with roastiness, dark chocolate, some burnt notes and some fruity hints. Medium to full-bodied with quite a bit of carbonation. Cask at Gingerman NYC on 1/8, one of the first drawn at 6pm. This was well worth waiting for. dark as the hold of the Exxon Valdez. This BBDS has an even greater presence of bourbon flavor than even the 2008 Goose Island Bourbon County. Outrageous, delicious, powerful, and just wish I could have hung out for a 2nd glass. Tap at Hamilton’s. Very dark black beer with a thick creamy tan/brown head. Aroma is really great. Loads of rich dark chocolate and malted milk character. Sweet vanilla and a light bourbony character. Some light caramel and a bit of spicy woody tannins. Very full-bodied and chewy. Sweet milk chocolate, malted milk, and a soft herbal bitterness. Very restrained with excellent integration between the sweet vanilla/caramel bourbony flavour and the deep dark chocolate. Very rich, silken, and unctuous mouthfeel. Cask at the Blind Tiger for VSK 2008. Bourbon, tobacco aroma, dry smoke, caramel and rye whiskey, vanilla, cedar. Very complex. Poured with a nice head for a cask beer. Very thick body, mostly dry, very dark chocolate and a bourbony finish. Surprisingly easy drinking. Chalky cocoa flavor is perfect. This was wonderful. Cask at Blind Tiger VSK 2008: Pours opaque black with a dense deep tan head. Big aroma of rich dark chocolate liqueur, smooth oak, roast and a burnt raisin aspect. Nice silky mouthfeel. Great integration of a rich Stout and smooth cask character. Has flavors of licorice, chocolate/mocha, burnt marshmallow-like richness, and a smooth rounded oak presence, without the assertive alcohol flavor or overwhelming vanilla booziness many barrel-aged stouts have. Long roasted finish. This is a nice barrel-aged Imperial Stout.
