3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
This is my first ever imperial stout.. after about a year of trying many, many beer styles i think my palate is prepared. Pours blacks and thick with a mocha head and a big espresso noise on it with a slight ash + hop tone. Has a creamy mouth feel and is very sweet in the taste with a hard to detect bitterness although i can really taste the alcohol. Alot of the coffee comes through to the taste also with a slight liquorice? I didnt mind this beer was quite warming and i can see why these are good for winter.
Very nice stout, big and rich and roasty, hitting all the indulgent impy stout notes without growing cloy or overbearing. Malts offer up milk chocolate, coffee, and hints of molasses and anise, while the hops dry out the back end, adding a needed dark-roast bitterness backed up by pine and unsweetened cocoa powder. Finishes with a touch of boozy warmth, while the fade refuses to lean sweet. Pretty black-brown pour with a modest beige head and some lacing. Glorious mocha nose. Texture's good but the slightest bit abrasive. Delicious. Bacchus66 (967) - South Carolina, USA - AUG 6, 2017
12oz bottle @ home. Very dark brown with reddish edges. Nose is dark roast coffee and bourbon barrels. Flavors are burnt roast malt, coffee, dark chocolate, toffee, chicory. Full bodied. The long finish is first roasty, then bitter espresso, then bitter chocolate. Appropriate alcohol. Really nice. nutjes (1290) - Zwevegem, BELGIUM - MAR 30, 2017
