355ml Flasche. Sehr dunkelbraunes Bier mit schöner bräunlichen Schaumkrone. Geruch angenehm röstmalzig, Kaffee, Schokolade. Geschmack nach dunkler Schokolade, Karamell, Kaffee. Leighton (21492) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAR 6, 2016
Bottle at home in London. Picked up at Cask Pub and Kitchen (London) from their discount shelf; so, I figure this beer is probably at least one to two years out of date (it’s got the old label). Pours thick black-brown with a lasting, creamy beige head. Relaxed roasted malts in the aroma, with hints of oxidation (just faint suggestions of burnt cardboard creeping in), with pleasant over-arching dark chocolate character. Medium to big sweet flavour, with nicely layered chocolate notes, some baking cocoa, milk chocolate, good ashy roast, some bitter earth, dark fruits, raisins. Full bodied with average carbonation and velvety texture. Finishes with light alcohol warmth, sticky chocolate, bittersweet baking cocoa, burnt sugars, burnt toffee, some old leather, more raisins. There’s some light dryness in the aftertaste that levels things out well. Great beer overall. Good depth, nice balance. Totally solid from beginning to end. Black with a brown head. Aroma is sweet, roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, burnt and a little alcohol. Flavor is quite sweet and rather bitter. Dry and roasted rather bitter finish. Oily and smooth. 081111 fiulijn (20701) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - AUG 2, 2009

2016-02-19, draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver, 7-4-7-4-14=36
Black color with brown creamy head. Mild aroma of roasted nuts. Robust flavor of roasted nuts, some rye bread, light tobacco and vanilla, nice alcohol warmth; good body strength, moderately sweet, and a bit over carbonated. Also, a bit too much acidity from the roasted malts.

Pitch black color with creamy head. The aroma of roasted malt is mild, and has some cheesy yeast too. Good body strength, rich chocolate flavor, strong bitterness. Very good one.

Black color; medium creamy head. Roasted malt aroma, strangely metallic. Good body, strong roasted malt flavor but supported by some sweetness, still overall the flavor is dry; it has some roasted nuts too; it gets rounder and sweeter later. Quite good but not impressive.
Cremig malziger Antrunk. Geringe Bananigkeit. Super! 7/12/12/11/10/12

Bottle at ChrisO "I’m Trying to see the Stool" pre GBBF2010 tasting. Black, thick beige head. Sour stout aorma. Good espresso flavour and slightly harsh choc on the swallow. Some sour. But good sweetness too. Bizarre.
