East Village Pilsner -
What Fizzy Yellow Beer should be!

I believe that "Fizzy Yellow Beer" can and should be full of life and flavor unlike domestic mass produced, mundane, lifeless, boring, bland, fizzy yellow, insipid swill that takes up cooler space and tap handles at our local markets, pubs and restaurants. San Diego’s East Village is full of life and Green Flash is adding flavor to this burgeoning neighborhood with "East Village Pilsner". It’s made from premium European Pilsner Malt and Noble Hops. Traditional Pilsner lager yeast ferments the beer and imparts a clean flavor, yet unique character during the one-month lagering period. Of course our East Village Pilsner has a bit more hop than even the best European examples, which makes it truly a Green Flash Original. 5.3% ABV – 35 IBUs.

Clean, crisp, Pils. Floral, with great bread notes add to the major appeal for this beer in my opinion. Pours pale yellow, short head. Some bitterness, great finish.

Draft sample from notes. Pours a clear golden color with a medium sized white head. The aroma is pale malt, herbal, lightly floral and grassy. The flavor is pale malt, bready, grainy, herbal, hints of spice and hay, light metallic. Fairly light and clean. This is just not a style I enjoy.

On tap at brewpub. A clear greenish straw with a short lived white head. Aroma is lemon and pils malt. Flavor is pils malt, cereal. Finish is mostly herbal. Light to medium body, average carbonation.

Draft tonight at the GF tap takeover at Bittercreek... Pours clear polished golden with a nice rocky white head.. I would guess Saaz hops and a heavy hand on the flavor and aroma.. bittering is also pretty good... Seems more pale malt than pils malt, but not a big complaint... Nice and clean and a great change of pace from the hop and sour monsters we’ve been enjoying tonight.... I’d happily buy this again, may not be perfectly to style, but still nice when a brewer tries to make a cool lager.

Draft at dirty oscars. Pours a clear medium gold with a scant white head that fades. Big cloying sticky sweet grassy nose. Creamy body, too heavy, light carb. Intense grassy sweetness on the mid palate. Murky finish. Couldn’t finish half of it.
