COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editor’s note: If you had the 8.1% abv version marketed since 2014 as a Double Red India Pale Ale, this is the wrong beer page. Please rate under Green Flash Hop Head Red Double IPA (2014 -). Resinous hop characteristics emerge from an enormous hopping with Columbus, Nugget and Amarillo overtaking the rich caramel malt base. To add luscious
hop flavors and enticingly floral hop aromas, we dry-hop the brew with bucket loads of Amarillo hops. Welcome to the world of Red IPA.

UPDATED: SEP 17, 2012 The beer poured a deep red in color with small bubbles for the head. The hops were nicely evident and balenced with the malt. It was pleasure to drink. I need to learn how Simcoe hops compare to cascade. I improved my scores from 2008. This is an excellent IPA.. The dry hopping makes a huge difference. Your sense of smell and taste can have a field day. Medium body with average carbonation and nice lacing down the glass.

Pours a deep copper/ amber color with an oily off-white head. Aroma is slightly sweet with heavy grapefruit, slight pine, and a hint of alcohol. Flavor is sour orange with some biting hops. Finish is lingering dry hops.

Bottle courtesy of markwise. Pours amber with a one finger off-white head that leaves good lacing. Aroma of citrus hops, sweet malt, and caramel. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium mouthfeel with a moderate amount of bitterness. Very good.

Draught at Woodys in Downtown Raleigh. Pours reddish-brown, with an off-white medium frothy head. Has an aroma strong with hops and some caramel, sugar, roasted malts. Flavor is very hoppy with a decent malt backbone. Definitely woth having again.

pours copper/brown, tan head. Aroma and taste, loaded with fruity hops and fruits with additional caramel and malts. Too much hops for my tastes.

Bottle... Poured cloudy red with a beige head. Strong hops on the nose. Well carbonated and very dry which complemented the hop flavors. Other earthy spices and sweet floral flavors with plum or prunes in the finish.

On tap at Stone bistro. Pours a hazy brown ruby with a foamy off-white head that was long lasting. Nose is of citrus hops and caramel, some malt sweetness with a candy fragrance in the background. Taste starts with a nice hop bitterness with a taste of toasted malt and dark bread, faint malt sweetness and caramel flavors. Finishes with a medium dryness and fine carbonation and not to much either. I really enjoyed this one, another fine North County brew!

presario (4925) - Stampede City, Alberta, CANADA - NOV 18, 2008
Red amber. Thick head. Fruity hop[y scent with a strong malt presence. Woody hop flavour with a bit of a twist.

On tap at Stone. Was bottom of keg or something, so not fair to rate other than a place holder. Super cloudy. Looked like an unfiltered copper/red. Was still enjoyable, but not right. Will rerate soon.

BlackForestCO (1288) - Aurora, Colorado, USA - NOV 17, 2008
Bottle from ucusty, thanks man. Poured a deep red color with a thick, dense off-white head that left thick lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, some earthy floral hops, and light citrus (orange peel, light grapefruit). Smooth, lightly sweet entry with some light caramel malt and iced tea that leads into a moderate dry hoppiness with some light citrus (orange, soft grapefruit, and tangerine) and a soft leafiness. Moderate carbonation and decent bite on the palate. Solid.
