Bottle @ home, picked up @ Argonaut in Denver last week. Pours a black appearance with a soft, creamy, brown head. Really piney and resiny hoppy nose. Definitely some tropical fruit and grapefruit mixed in there as well with the roast and burnt malts. Kind of creamy mouth feel. Flavor is full of pineapple, grapefruit, and juicy tropical fruits which is a bit odd when in combination with the burnt, roasty, chocolate malts. Moderate sweetness. Moderate to high bitterness. Twangy finish. Pretty fucken strange brew though not completely unenjoyable. KyotoLefty (10209) - Kyoto, JAPAN - MAR 21, 2014

On tap at Capitol Beer, Sacramento. Pours, well, black with a rich tan head and a bready treacle aroma. There is a hearty roasted malt flavor with a hefty dose of citra and probably Cascade hops. Excellent flavor and easy to drink. DrSilverworm (9671) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAY 24, 2013
Pint on tap at Lackman for $7. Black body. Thin khaki head. Good, thicker lace. Bigger body. Light to medium strength smooth lightly soft carbonation. More dry finish. Big herbal kind of spicy hop flavor. Savory herbs like basil, maybe some thyme, some tobacco. Light roast. Moderate bitter taste, then a light sweet in the finish. Unusual black IPA... Not really any chocolate, much more herbal and spicy than most. But it’s tasty and interesting arminjewell (9585) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - MAR 14, 2014

Clear dark dark brown with a lovely aroma of herbal and grassy hops with dark sweet burnt caramel and roasty black malts. Flavor has some nice bitterness up front with some acidic pine and grapefruit, followed by some toastiness and roasted black malt. Sweet overall with a nice balancing resinous bitterness.
