COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This hoppy pale ale starts out as 30th Street Pale Ale and then undergoes Spanish cedar aging. Wood aging imparts an intense cedar aroma which dominates the dry hop. The flavor contributions from the Spanish cedar include peppercorn spiciness and a tannic dry mouth feel that makes the hop flavor and bitterness linger in the finish. The wood adds a fun and unique twist on a classic American Strong Pale Ale, “The wood is good!” Hops used: Warrior, El Dorado, Cascade

IslandHaole (1268) - Misawa, JAPAN - MAR 3, 2016
Caramel/orange color with a golden foam head. Nice balance in the aroma, good hops with a hint of the spicy cedar. Similar to Hitachino Japanese Ale, but milder cedar. A short lived caramel sweetness initially quickly followed by hops up front, the cedar comes out in the follow, a long lingering bitter aftertaste. Medium light body, crisp. I could drink this quite often and not tire of it.

Sampled form a 16.9 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy apricot color with a huge foamy orange-white head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was sweet, tangy and bitter with pine, perfume and cedar. The flavor was bitter with Pine-sol, perfume, cedar and a bit of herbal hops. Long finish. Medium body. Ok.

Bomber from Chevy Chase Supermarket. Dark amber body with medium, frothy head. Nose is hoppy, soapy, caramel. Taste is wonderful of malts, spices, oaky notes, floral and fruity as well. Really nice, smooth pine finish. Well done on this one!

Fair head, light honey brown appearance. Smells of pepper and firewood... interesting. Tastes like I licked a fireplace with pepper, which surprisingly isn’t that bad.

The woody, piney cedar is very noticeable here. Quite nice, if you ask me. The hops and cedar play nicely together.

Originally rated on 11/16.14. "Pours a copper color body with a white head and leaves some decent lace. Aroma of citrusy hops, herb and faint frsh cut lumber. In the taste, earthy and citrusy hops abound. The woodsy notes come through as it warms a bit. Medium bodied, crisp and dry with a solid hop bite.Overall, this is a really nice pale ale, a fair amount of complexity for this style.

Bottle, 22oz. A hazy one, dark orange-golden in color and with a dense, off-white head on top. The aroma is very fruity and piney, with lots of grapefruit, orange-peel and some peach. A malty touch in the back too. There’s a nice malty, spiced backdrop for the hops in the flavor. It’s quite bitter too, and piney, citrusy hops dominates. I don’t think there’s much impact from the cedar wood in this one, but it might be that it’s just blending with the hops. It’s full-bodied, smoothly carbonated and quite drying on the palate. Lasting citrusy, grapefruit mostly, piney and bitter finish. This was a pleasant beer to enjoy just after breakfast. 150608
