Bigger, bolder, and hoppier is what you get in Green Flash’s Imperial Red Rye IPA...how unusual! This is quite possibly the most amount of flavor that can be packed into a glass of red ale. Columbus hops set the stage for the newly available Mosaic hops (released in 2013) to shine through the rich crystal malt base and a touch of rye malt adds a spicy dryness to accentuate the hop character further

Pours a deep red brown on tap with creamy tan head and good lacing. Aroma of strong virus and floral hops with a hint of rye spice. Taste follows, nice bittersweet finish, almost no hint of the booze. Caramel and citrus are huge on the back end, really nice for being so big.

August 10, 2013 - on draught at Blue Monk - my birthday! Clear mahogany pour with a smallish tan/beige bubbly head. Aroma and taste is mostly resin and light pine, definite alcohol - quite bitter, a little roasty, not overly sweet - lovely stuff. Average body and carbonation, only a medium finish (drops off the palate quite quickly, surprisingly doesn’t really coat) - dry and a bit leafy in the finish. Solid 4.

Whooooo, party down. This thing is a heavyweight. My bottle definitely said and felt more like 9% than 8.5. Either way, you don’t taste the alcohol, rather a huge pine upfront with some subtle earthy notes, grass, citrus notes.... Rather interesting. Big on the hop bite, bitter but not too much, very well balanced. I’d buy time and time again.

Tap at mellow mushroom. Pour is deep amber with lingering froth head. Nose is weak a bit. Medium acrid feel up front an rye feel thick throughout. Smooth at times but alcohol cuts thru at other times.

Spicy nose and flavor with caramel malts and a citrus peel hop bitterness. Since this was the previous release, it’s not as fresh as the Citra Session, but still as good or better...me thinks this musta been AWESOME in late spring."

Having at headkeepers, big fan of eye IPAs. Nice rye flavor with fruity hop finish. Dry but approachable.

Pours a seemingly rich and viscous reddish copper with just one finger of lacing tan head. Very hoppy aroma, nondescript but bright and green for sure. Some dank notes and citrus rind with some spicy notes. Intense flavor upfront, very sharp and firm bitterness.

On tap at choice city. Pours a clear amber with great off white head. Aroma is caramel, some hops, earthiness, toast. Flavor is hoppy, but a big sweet malty character, finishing with a bitter, spicy rye flavor. Full bodied, and hides its booze quite well

big bottle. new labeling. called "road warrior" imperial rye ipa. 9.0%abv. clear red with a nice whipped cream colored head with excellent lacing. tea notes from the rye in aroma. palate is superb with full body and creamy. really easy for 9 and heavy hop addtions. toasty bread flavors with earthy rye, leaves, and balanced but assertive hops.

In short: A richly malted (lots of caramel and rye) and generously hopped (piney and citrusy) big red ale. Good beer.
How: Tap at Farmhouse Tap & Grill, Burlington VT.
The look: Clear dark red body topped by a persistent small beige head leaving lots of lacings on the glass.
In long: Nose has some fresh rye and a good hop presence that is piney citrusy herbal. In mouth the beer offers a nourishing body and a good carbonation, pleasant mouthfeel. Taste doesn’t let down. Plenty of crusty rye bread, succulent caramel, berries jam, toasted residual sugars, plenty of sandy piney and citrusy hops. Medium sweetness sensation and a bitterness of medium intensity. Nothing surprising here, it delivers pretty much what I was expecting from a respected brewery making Double IPA called Imperial Red Rye. Another good hoppy beer from California, one of the 49 states not known for its famous chainsaw massacre.
