"San Diego-style IPA, as it has come to be known by many, is a super-hoppy, high gravity, yet highly quaffable ale. Green Flash Imperial IPA is created in this new tradition, with intense hop flavors and aromas from a unique blend of Summit and Nugget hops. Its all about the hops!" -- Brewmaster Chuck Silva

Way drinkable, high-octane IIPA. Odd combination of Christmas wreath, and freshly mown lawn with a balsam note in the nose; some musty, bubble-gum fruitiness and wafflely malts; moderate, creamy body. Very nice, though a bit odd.

Hazy and nicely golden with a healthy head upon itself. Very spicy and stringent nose. Body is on the light side, but with a soft creaminess at its base. Carbonation was moderate. Hops were so strong I could feel them; electric, metallic and sharp. Massive pine and grapefruit. Quite the hop shotgun blast. Malts were subdued and restrained in the background, although some nice caramel and cocoa notes popped up here and there. Aftertaste was filled with piney-grassy juices. Tolerable amount of bitterness. 9 percent was hidden fairly well, and it gave the beer a nice edge. Fun stuff.

UPDATED: MAR 10, 2010 Clear orange in color; head is nearly white, almost full, and creamy, yet a little fluffy. Great longevity on the head and excellent lacing. Pleasant, yet simple nose for an IIPA; citrus is big up front with notes of tangerine and pink grapefruit with underlying notes of pine and grass. Very similar flavor with hops flavors being almost totally dominant noting most obviously tangerine and pine resin; only hints at a cookie-like sweetness under the high bitterness. Palate is medium, lively, and a little sticky; a tad thin for the style. Finishes mostly bitter with pine resin sticking around with a very little cookie sweetness, then it vanishes ghostly. Very drinkable for the ABV, but somewhat simple for an IIPA; no real complexities, but no complaints either. Basically, just an amped up version of their West Coast IPA, not better, not worse. Tried another bottle a couple years later in a bomber... the palate seems not as thin which is nice, the citrus notes are more juicy and bold, and an herbal bitterness finds its way underneath everything to give a nice complexity to the beer. It seems like one of those beers that has plenty of hops but not enough to get in the way of the overall beer.

Sampled part of Bomber. Golden amber color, with nice head. Aroma is powerfully hoppy and the citrus aroma is strong. Palate is really thick with hops, when I was drinking it it was almost like I was chewing the hops.

Beer pours a really attractive honey color with a big, fluffy off white head that is totally retained. Aroma is BIG grapefruit hoppy goodness with a bit of pine resin. Flavor is really nice, juicy citrus, sweet pineapple, wonderful hoppy bitterness. I have not been a big fan of Double IPAs lately, but I really am enjoying this one. Great job, Green Flash!!

22oz bomber poured into my pint glass. Pours a golden color with only the slightest of head that quickly recedes and is gone. Smell. The smell is sticky-icky. You know when you get done cutting the grass and you turn the mower over to clean out the clumps. Yeah, that in a glass. The taste is pretty much the same as the smell but with the obvious hop bitterness. Now Im more of a fan of the simcoe hop. The juicier, more citrusy hop. But for what its worth, this beer was easily drinkable. It went down smooth. The mouthfeel was well balanced between the hops and what malt there was. The alcohol does come through quite apparent. Its not hiding no where. Its as up front as the hops are. Which is about the only thing that keeps this beer from being highly sessionable. A good offering. I would have again.

Better than average double IPA at Pizza Port in Port Carlsbad. Good hop juice, piney. Drinkable though over 100 IBU. Orangey colour with white head. Citrus taste. Satisfying though assaulting as it is. Summit and nugget hops. A change of pace, but their IPA and most IPA are more my speed.

A TREMENDOUS I2PA! Something Ill tell the grandkids about. Intense hoppieness that doesnt dry you out. Pours yellow with crazy carbonation factor 5. Smells of hops with hops added. Tastes like a liquid pine tree meets hop flavored bubbilicious.

Tap at DIPA fest. Very aggressive beer, dominated by very floral yet bitter hops. Nice mouthfeel and lasting bitter finish. Aroams are nice as well, fruity and piney with an added floral component. Very good.
