"San Diego-style IPA, as it has come to be known by many, is a super-hoppy, high gravity, yet highly quaffable ale. Green Flash Imperial IPA is created in this new tradition, with intense hop flavors and aromas from a unique blend of Summit and Nugget hops. It’s all about the hops!" -- Brewmaster Chuck Silva

Must have been saving this rate for after the Pliny one... Drank both this and Pliny the Elder with my brother in law Dwain on the same night maybe nine months ago. Dwain, who maybe had never had an IPA in his life up till this point had some commentary that he asked me to write down about the beers we were drinking. I intended originally to provide a whole series of such ratings where I put down my notes then his but I think this only panned out to like two or three beers. Maybe I’ll try again in the future.

Pours a golden, almost a light orange color with a huge white head and good lacing on the glass.

The aroma is herbal with a touch of cooking spice. There are plenty of pungent fruity hops. The alcohol character is very low and there is a little bit of toasty malt.

The flavor is hoppy with a medium bitterness, the hops are more of the spicy and grassy varietals but the beer does feature some melon and orange rind character as well as some odd tomato notes and a little bit of toasty malt.

And now for the Brother Dwain bonus rate:
This is a fruity beer by smell, and it also smells like good pot.

Flavor: This tastes really bitter & not as good as Pliny the Elder

Overall: Way too bitter for me to even drink.

Aroma: intensively hoppy with floral and pine hops. Taste: floral hops, notes of citrus just to balance it’s pine flavor. Long lasting grass+pine aftertaste. Drinkable regardless high IBU and ABV. One of my favorite imperial IPA, and probably most drinkable among DIPAs

This beer rocks. It is easy to drink, great piney almost dank aroma, the mouth feel is pleasing and the amber color is clear with mild carbonation. It is a go to beer. Drink and enjoy! Nice work Green Flash! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A: Light clear Orange with a small white head. N: Citrus, dank notes. T: Finishes dry and not very malty for a high-gravity IPA, making it very crisp and refreshing. Leafy green bitterness. Orange juice, earthy notes, mint. Properly bitter. Grapefruit. P: Thin O: Great, complex IPA. Deceptively drinkable.

660ml bottle: Pours a hazy golden with white head. Peppery notes with spicy hop aroma. High bitterness, medium bodied, medium carbonation. Beer finishes dry. Some good caramel flavours come through together with herby notes. Overall a refreshing beer.

650mL bottle from Beer Love online. BB 09MAY17 - whoops Hazy orange gold beer, decent size dense white head. Aroma not as intense as expected (can forgive that with age) - citrus rind, pine sap, toasty malt, not as malty as the standard IPA seemingly. Full body, resiny, big but that booze is well tempered. Enjoyable flavours of toasty biscuity malt, sweet throughout really with hops making the balance providing lingering lime & grapefruit, green pine needle, unripe peach, and a healthy hit of bitterness. Yeah, it’s a bit long in the tooth but retains plenty of character.

Bomber, Kroger, Rio Hill. Golden with a small white head. Aroma of pine, oregano, citrus. Flavor is heavily tropical fruit up front. Cantaloupe, pine, grapefruit. Juicy up front... lingering cantaloupe flavor closes it out along with pine.

doriangrey (62) - Diamond Creek, AUSTRALIA - APR 15, 2017
UPDATED: APR 16, 2017 Quite drinkable and didn’t taste at all like 9% though I did drink an 8% IPA before it. However the 8% tasted stronger! Straw coloured and tropical. Not very fizzy but enjoyable. 2nd try it tasted a little too boozy and heavy with not enough hops to cover.
