Pours dark gold with a big off-white/yellowish head that fades fast into lots of lacing. Earthy aroma with a surprising lack of big citrusy hops. Taste is...not much? Really lacks flavor which is surprising given the name. At the same time there isn’t much of an alcohol bite. I guess a good drink if you wanna get trashed without much work on your end. On tap @ Rackhouse Pub. Poured a hazy orange with a one-finger head. Smell is sweet grapefruit, tangerines, and citrus. Great smelling beer. Taste is very bitter from start to finish and I have to admit that I think it smells better than it tastes. Still I dig this beer because it is a hopheads dream. Somewhat sticky mouthfeel and high carbonation. Overall, a pretty good DIPA and worth a try. burakak (7) - indian trail, USA - APR 14, 2012 does not count
How can bitterness joyable? By drinking Palate wrecker. It has a very complex yet joyable taste.

UPDATED: APR 15, 2012 Bottle to shifter. Blood orange honey colored pour. One finger white head fades to large foamy bubbles. Tiny champagne bubbles soar up the sides of the glass leaving the rest of the glorious liquid completely still. Lots of hops in the nose, mostly grass and wet hay. The taste is quite hoppy, as expected. Resin, the grassy flavors of the aroma, and a bright, soapy citrus essence. Very floral on the finish with lots of labendar and lilac. It’s of course hop-forward, but there is evidence of malt having done all it could do to make this flavorful beyond hop water. Pine resin lingers on the palate. budznsudz (583) - Audubon, New Jersey, USA - APR 14, 2012
Light copper pour with a creamy head. The aroma is well.....odd. It’s almost off-putting. Maybe strong barnyard and hay mixed with dough. Taste has a nice hop profile but nowhere near the claimed 149 ibu’s. The base is a complex malt and alcohol profile with some nice pine resin hop presence with some banana and vegetal notes. Definitely a more complex double ipa. This is following a 3 floyds dreadnaught so my palate may be skewed.

Bomber. Gold amber pour, frothy off-white head. Earthy nose, pine, citrus, bitter hops, malts. Creamy taste of same, roughens up, some toffee, sugar, hint of molasses. The taste is definitely more dimensional than the aroma. Slick mouthfeel but finishes dry with a bitter note, delicious. Medium carbonation, active on the palate. Aroma of apricot, bitter weed, and floral. Pours deep orange with a medium head. Taste is very bitter with grapefruit seed, floral and a bitter malt. Good but not in large quantity. hoosiers1994 (684) - Maryland, USA - APR 14, 2012
Bottle pours clear dark gold with a fluffy white head. Aromas are of grapefruit, tangerine and pineapple. The tastes are hop juice and more hop juice...lots of hops up front, in the middle, and on the finish. Not overly bitter, as the malts balance it out well for what it is. Body is medium with a long hoppy bitter finish. Overall a great DIPA. radagast83 (8340) - Arlington, Virginia, USA - APR 14, 2012
UPDATED: MAR 27, 2013 Had roughly 4oz pour from draft - poured a light copper color with a small white head. Aroma was bitter hop notes. Flavor was a very bitter hop character. Touch soapy notes in aroma. Flavor is, well, a palate wrecker. Bitter and resiny. Quite good this time around.hopheaven (91) - St Louis, Missouri, USA - APR 14, 2012
Original review: There was a slight astringent character going on that I didn’t particularly care for, but i’m not sure if that was perhaps the glass or the beer itself. Rating: 3.3
Aroma: Dank; pungent; herbal; catty; pine/menthol; melon; apple/kiwi; grapefruit. Ridiculously layered and complex hop profile that continues to unfold over time as the beer settles into the glass.
Flavor - BITTER. Bourbon-like; molasses; toasted walnuts; toffee; wood-bark; grapefruit; resin; candy sugar.
Overall: A perfectly conceptualized beer that is simply way too intense for my palate. The most bitter beer I’ve ever had. Difficult to drink. Very astringent.
