Palate Wrecker was originally brewed for the Hamiltons Tavern 2nd Anniversary celebration. Its the most complicated West Coastinspired IPA we have ever brewedmashing and sparging with hopped wort, in addition to our hop layering regimen for IPA. We use almost 6 lbs/bbl of Columbus and Centennial hops to create this very bitter hop monster (tested at 149 IBU and no extracts in case you were wondering). By popular demand, it is now released for the world to enjoy (even though this beer isnt for everyone, only the real hop heads!!!). Cheers! - Chuck Silva - Brewmaster - Green Flash Brewing

From a bottle at a tasting. Pours medium amber with a medium-sized off-white head. Aroma is, well, um, hoppy -- loads of pine, some grapefruit, but mostly a deep, dank, earthiness. The flavor delivers even more of this. Im getting layers of hoppiness -- loads of dank, fresh hops really dominate. And you know, it doesnt actually strike me as ridiculously bitter -- just loads of hop flavor. Enough malt backbone to keep it from being too lopsided too. Mouthfeel is thick but more creamy than oily.

A perfect beer if you like a piney flavored Imperial/Double IPA. Im more partial to a fruitier IPA but this one is a better example of the other end of the hop flavor spectrum (i.e. fruit vs. pine).

Pours a hazy golden color with a nice head and good lacing on the glass.

The aroma is hop forward with lots of pine and melon. The nose is lightly sweet with some dank character and some alcohol.

The flavor is big and hoppy, aggressively bitter but not without a particularly noticeable toasty malt backbone. There is plenty of fruit forward hoppiness and some pine notes. The alcohol is noticeable but not unpleasant and the bitterness level is very enjoyable.

Almost surreal to see this on tap in Des Moines.

Bright, new shiny copper color. Head holds to a thin white film. Lacing is fine and blanketous. Thats prolly not a word but it gets the point across. No, not prolly, thats my word. The aroma is just bitter. Its not even hops. The flavor is the definition of bitter. The palate is bitter and has a little spike of dryness. The bite is good. The finish is a bit harsh due to being too bitter. Is that even possible?

Bottle. Head is initially large, frothy, off-white, mostly lasting. Body is light to medium amber. Aroma is lightly malty (caramel, toasted grain), moderately to heavily hoppy (resin, grapefruit), with a note of alcohol. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, moderately acidic, moderately to heavily bitter. Full body, creamy texture, lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic. Wow. This has just about the most one-dimensional aroma you could imagine in an IPA. A resin-grapefruit bomb with virtually nothing else going on. Citric and abrasive in the mouth, just as the name suggests, so its no fun to drink either. Looks nice and has a enjoyable creamy mouthfeel, but is otherwise a profoundly boring beer.

UPDATED: APR 13, 2012 Bottle pours a clear orange/amber with a thick off white top. Scent is pine, grass and caramel. Taste is pine, caramel, citrus and a long dry piney finish.

On tap at Belmont Station Bier Cafe, pours a mostly clear copper with a medium off-white head. Aroma of strong herbal hops, marijuana and rye malt notes - quite the herbal hop punch. Intense herbal hops smother the palate with little resource - still balanced with the rye malt. The rye and herbal notes linger on and on. Excellent hop scorcher.

Poured from a bomber into tulip. Awesome DIPA! floral, cirtrus, and resin hops really slam hard on the palate. I love the mouthfeel on this...so hoppy but so smooth for a 10% abv. appears golden to amber usually see a darker look to 10% DIPAs.

Sampled on 4/9/20102, This Imperial IPA pours an orange copper color from a 12oz bottle. Medium to large sized white foamy head with nice retention and good lacing. The aroma is grapefruity, piney, fruity and sweet, with some more hop aroma at the end. A medium bodied Imperial IPA. The malts are fruity and sweet, orange and orange peel. The hop, my oh my, the hops, are grapefruity and piney and the some more grapefruity and piney. If you couldnt tell its a really hoppy beer. Lots of reisny bitterness and lots of hops flavor. Decent carbonation. A big bad IPA. A reported 149 IBUs, but there is a nice malt backbone trying to come out from behind all those hops. Very nicely done. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is very bitter.

From the bottle poured a golden brew with a light head. Stink foot and malt aromas. Strongly hopped, sweet, with a lingering hop finish that you have to scrape off your tounge.
