Palate Wrecker was originally brewed for the Hamilton’s Tavern 2nd Anniversary celebration. It’s the most complicated West Coast–inspired IPA we have ever brewed—mashing and sparging with hopped wort, in addition to our hop layering regimen for IPA. We use almost 6 lbs/bbl of Columbus and Centennial hops to create this very bitter hop monster (tested at 149 IBU and no extracts in case you were wondering). By popular demand, it is now released for the world to enjoy (even though this beer isn’t for everyone, only the real hop heads!!!). Cheers! - Chuck Silva - Brewmaster - Green Flash Brewing

UPDATED: MAR 19, 2013 Fresh keg. I am extremely excited not to have purchased bottles of this one. Great ipa brewery but this one is nto as advertised. A sweet and candied orange malt bomb.

Decided to purchase bottles on a hunch... Ill upgrade the rating. Dk if I had a bad keg or what. Smell is malty with orange citrus, exactly what I tasted from the draft version which is nice but not palate wrecking. Though it isn’t a palate wrecker it does indeed have a super-high bitterness, one of the highest perceived bitterness of any beer out there. Caramel malt is there with candied citrus but it takes a back seat to the intensity piney and herbal bitterness. I shudder to think what this would be like with 100% pale malt and a slightly lower abv. The brewmaster has obviously figured out how to get everything out of his perceived bitterness.

On tap at Jungle Jim’s, Eastgate. Wow! Pours a medium-dark amber wih a thick, bubbly white head. Aroma is extremely floral, grassy, pine, citrus, pineapple. Taste is very full, rich, complex; fruity, lots of floral notes, grass, earthy, sweet, long bitter finish; nice malt profile as well, caramels. Medium carbonation. Some lacing. Chewy mouth feel. This was excellent. I could not help but smile from the first aroma to the bottom of the taster. Hop heads should definitely seek this out.

Pours clear amber. Hoppy citrus nose. Tons of hops on the front with a slightly warming finish. Definitely lives up to the name and an excellent brew.

Bottle from PD. Clear, light amber pour with a medium white head which fades quickly to leave moderate lace. Nose is severe cut grass, pine and ganja. Medium-heavy body with moderate, fine carbonation and lots of hop oiliness. Weed, caramel, spruce, cheese and a rosemary spiciness. Hops are overwhelming, in the tradition of beers like Arctic Panzer Wolf or Lukcy Basardt, but the malt base is there to support it. Aptly named, rivals the best.

Orange pour with a small white head. Big citrus / pine hop nose - layered with some spice notes. Med to full body with tons of chewy hop flavor with oozing citrus notes and pine. Tongue scraping bitter finish. This beer lives up to its name!

Orange copper colour, white head. Aroma of hops, tropical fruit, passionfruit, citrus, resin and honey. Light floral. Hop bitter flavour, quite sweet malts. Relatively full body, bitter finish, fruity and floral.

Nice! Quite balanced for such a hop forward beer.

(from 15cL bottle brought to New year Party. Got it from tderoeck. Thanks!)

Growler filled at hopcity in Atlanta. Pours a dark golden color, nose is sweet tropical fruit hoppy smell, nice carbonation, thick white head. Taste is a bit of sweetness, bitter sweet hop, grapefruity flavor. Bitterness is very strong but not too too much. Definitely a beer to finish the night with. Tastes similar to the west coast on steroids. I recommend it to any hop head!
