I had this beer at Green Flash brewery in Virginia Beach. I liked the heavy bourbon taste that you got from the first sip. It had a dark almost chocolate look to it and sometimes I got a whiff of coffee. Great beer if you are a fan of stouts. obguthr (7084) - Staunton, Virginia, USA - JUN 15, 2017

Sample at Freschcraft during the "Colorado Craft Beer Week: Ratio Beerworks Firkin Tapping!" on 03/24/2017. Murky dark reddish brown color with a medium thin light beige head that recedes steadily to a dense film. Small patches of lacing. Aroma of bourbon, malt and hops. Full-bodied with flavors of oaky bourbon, caramel malt and earthy hops. The finish is boozy with a bourbon and malt aftertaste. Good beer all around. tightslice (1541) - Redwood City, California, USA - MAR 25, 2017
On tap at Harry’s Hofbrau in Redwood City, CA. Aroma is toffee, caramel, loads of vanilla, herbal candies, licorice, spicy bourbon. Taste is chewy herbal candies, licorice, earthy malt candies, the moves to herbal liqueur and bourbon. A great herbal, hot barleywine that isn’t too sweet. derA (91) - Zurich, SWITZERLAND - MAR 19, 2017
tap @ tap & bottle: smell is all the way bourbon barrel and maltose, some basement funk but mostly sweet bourbon. Taste is on the alcoholic side, which paired with the fairly light body takes quite a bit away from the initial smell-experience. Finishes with a lot of rum-raisin and some alcohol. Overall quite nice but a little bit too hot for me. This would probably benefit from a year or two in the cellar to take the hot edge off. jgb9348 (6781) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - JAN 6, 2017
Deep very rich brown coloured body with a muddied brown and ruby tint and a thinnish tan head, only coating the top. Aroma of pure pit fruits and roasted malt with a lot of peat, grain, fruit, yeast and alcohol. Full-bodied; Very rich earthy flavour at first with a roasted malt, pit fruit and boozey finish showing some warmth, a lot of toffee and a hint of spices, but raisins, figs, treacle and a bit of pears are very strong here. Aftertaste shows well with a ton of complexity, ranging from alcohol and bourbony notes to bits of vanilla, figs, spices, oak, spent coffee, chocolate and even a hint of smoked flavours. Overall, much more of an American Strong than a barley wine, but regardless, it packs a punch and you taste it, but the complexity and richness of flavours makes it worthwhile. I sampled this ten ounce pour at the end of my driveway at Whole Foods in Pentagon City (Arlington), Virginia on draught on 06-January-2017 for US$5,00.
