4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Super-heavy overall in the hourbon department, but I don’t mind that so much! Aroma = Bourbon. Taste is chocolate cake soaked in bourbon with vanilla, toasted coconut and wood tones. Black in color of course with tan head. Could the boubon be dialed back a little to taste more of the underlying beer? Yes, but I still love it just how it is.
Notes: Bottle from my friend Joe who was visiting San Diego and picked it up at the brewery upon release. Also sampled some with Shaun Hill, who happened to have a bottle arrive in the mail when we were visiting the brewery.
Large brown head, lasting with a nice saggy lacing.black colored. Nose is whisky and chocolate. Body is full, oily on the palate, soft carbo. Fairly sweet malts, caramel with notes of chocolate, light roast, gettin a bit much coconut, soy and the booze level is about maxed. Finish is a bit sweet, soy more so, losing me, i tried but were just heading in the same old direction. Another over done BB Impy Stout. Not refined, lower class. Maybe I’m growing up??!! Fuckin BB aged Impy Stouts dont do it for me any more??!! BUUUUUURRRP. 2015 750 from statelineliquors. daje (4436) - NORWAY - MAY 2, 2017
Bottle, september 17th 2016. Black body with a small tanned head. Aroma of coffee, bourbon, pretty strong alcohol notes. Taste of oak, leather, a bit astringency, making a harsh bitter finish. kevinator (2205) - The Colony, Texas, USA - MAR 5, 2017
Nice one. Roasty, toasty, malty but with a slight hop tinge. Bourbon and oak underline the flavor profile. Really good looking with deep darkness and full, weighty palate. jake65 (3689) - Meridian, Idaho, USA - FEB 19, 2017
Bottle, 2015 vintage cellared for about a year. Deep dark brown pour with a thin brown head. Aroma is rich with bourbon barrel notes, light roast, and some char. Swirling notes and layers of flavor... complex. Good woody bourbon barrel notes along with espresso and dark chocolate. Some vanilla too. Ends with a bit of char to compliment the sweet boozy barrel treatment. Palme (4811) - Bergen, NORWAY - FEB 16, 2017
On tap @ Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2014. This is a deep and dark brown looking one, only a small filmy but lacing beige head. I get a immediate wood-up thing blended with all the roastiness. Green strawberry sourness in a way? Strange but nice. Hints of vanilla also, and perhaps some dark wood in the back. Traces of cocoa and chocolate. Tastes quite nice. It has that slight wood acidity on the taste also, not to disturbing, but it is somewhat mouth drying and almost a bit astringent at the beginning. Lots of strong and powerful flavors. Sharp alcohol is present. As is dark bitter chocolate but it’s not heavy or to thick in the mouth. It’s undoubtedly a good one. 02.05.2014

From bottle pours a black body with a creamy tan head. So many elements in the aroma...chocolate, dark fruit, vanilla, caramel, cherries, yeast, and of course bourbon. The flavor reinforced these elements along with burnt sugar, molasses, and some earthy notes. Very complex! Rich creamy smooth mouthfeel. The flavor just went on and on. I didn’t want it to stop. Most amazing stuff! tderoeck (9656) - Gent, BELGIUM - DEC 21, 2016
18/XI/16 - 75cl bottle @ Seb’s Farewell Tasting (Eugene’s place) - BB: n/a (2016-1336) Thanks to Sebletitje (or was it Benzai?) for sharing the bottle!beerplace (1691) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - DEC 12, 2016
Funfact: this same beer was sampled at Seb’s previous farewell tasting, it seems. ;-)
Clear dark brown beer, small aery beige head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: lactose, weird sugary stuff, toffee and fudge, some chocolate, grains, cocoa powder. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: sweet start, malty, lots of dried fruits, caramel, pretty roasted. Aftertaste: roasted, caramel, alcohol, dried fruits.
A bottle on Black Christmas 2016 at 12 Kings. Vintage 2015. Pours a very dark brown with no head. Aroma is dark fruits, roasted malt, molasses. Taste is dry, pretty the same. 77ships (9798) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - NOV 20, 2016
Thank you Sebletitje. 750 ml. bottle sampled @ Sebletitje’s Farewell Tasting. Black, little tanned head. Nose is huge mocha, milk chocolate, very sweet, lactic sweet, mocha ice cream. Taste is mocha sugar, milk chocolate, chocolate syurp, lacto sweet, sugar mocha ice cream & vanilla, sweet milk chocolate part is wonderful, there is a low red grape, vaguely sour bit which takes it a bit down for me. Body is lactose, milk chocolate, sugar, mocha. Very lovely with a small minor point. Given the infection stories this might turn ugly with time.
