12 oz. bottle, sent from TigerBrew (thanks a lot, Cesar), pours a deep dark mahogany with a medium tan head. Aroma is complex, full of rich dark dried fruits, caramel malts, and brandy barrels. Flavour brings out the brandy barrels upfront - the brandy certainly dominates, with secondary flavours of dark dried fruits (especially raisins), and some caramel malt. Rich and flavourful with the brandy dominating. However, this is almost no hint of the 12.5% ABV. Excellent stuff. brokensail (16440) - Dublin, California, USA - MAR 1, 2013
Brownish pour with a khaki head. Extremely woody aroma. Lots of oak, some brandy, and a decent vanilla character. There’s a lot of walnuts, caramel, brown sugar, and dark fruit. The flavor is really heavy on the walnut character too. Big charred oak flavor, caramel, brown sugar, and dark fruit sweetness to balance that out. Mild brandy, some vanilla, and a hint of chocolate. Pretty boozy, particularly as it warms. djd07 (14369) - Houston, Texas, USA - OCT 1, 2014
Bottle thanks to Tom. Pours a cloudy dark brown with thick creamy tan head that lasts. The aroma is strong brown sugar, figs, dark fruit. Thick mouthfeel with nice roast, caramel, figs, sweet finish. Very nice. Dogbrick (12936) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - MAY 2, 2013
This brew pours a dark mahogany color with a medium thick and foamy khaki head that diminishes slowly. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of malt, brandy and molasses. Full, rich and boozy body with flavors of roasted malt, oak, vanilla and dark fruit. The finish is oaky bourbon and burnt malt with a lingering boozy aftertaste. Very good beer all around. slowrunner77 (11930) - Reno, Nevada, USA - SEP 12, 2014
"Holy hell!! This year’s comes in at a whopping 12.8% and somehow manages to be smoother and to show less alcohol than the 10.1% Silva Stout (also a great beer). This beer is a near prefect marriage of brandy and barleywine. Aroma is as good as it gets...toffee, slight earthy hops, hefty dose of brandy, caramel. Taste is similar but I kept going back to stick my nose in the glass. Probably the 3rd best BW (and best brandy) I’ve ever had, behind only King Henry and Abacus. Amazingly smooth and deeeelicious."

Bottle... Lightly hazed, dark copper ale with a mid-sized, creamy, off-white head. The aroma is of caramel with a light splash of brandy. Full-bodied with a velvety mouthfeel and tingly carbonation. The flavor supplies the caramel and brandy promised by the bouquet. Not exceedingly sweet or boozy. Well-blended and very enjoyable. Thanks to richiesd for supplying the bottle! daknole (11044) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - JUL 31, 2013
JW with the awesome share on the 4th of July. Thanks John. Pours an amber color, tan head. Boozy, sweet, vanilla, toasted oak, brown sugar, golden raisins, caramel. Pretty good but not mind blowing. GT (10000) - San Diego, California, USA - NOV 4, 2013
500mL at SDBW kickoff. Pours a clear, deep red. Excellent foam. Nose is mild savory meat, heavy vanilla, spicy tamarind, hoppy/india red ale or Sierra Nevada style barleywine. Taste is spicy imperial red ale style, dense cake, big vanilla. Sharp, hoppy, balanced palate. Well done. arminjewell (9585) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - NOV 13, 2013
Pour on tap at GABF, dark brownish red pour with off white head, aroma brought big bourbon, oak, vanilla, into slight earth, spice notes, nice thick caramel, toffee and dark sugary malts, hints of dark fruit in there as well. Taste is a mix of bourbon, oak, slight spice into sweet toffee, dark fruits, slight vanilla, finishing with a hint of grass and spice, though still sweet. douglas88 (9064) - Portland, Oregon, USA - APR 12, 2013
12 ounce bottle thanks to Stawn. Pours a deep red/brown color with a large creamy beige head. A wonderful fruity brandy nose, superb, sugary and woody. Rich dry flavors with huge grapes, heat, caramel, brown sugar, some berries. Very good, the nose is amazing.
