On draft at Green Flash release event. Pours a hazy caramel color with an off-white head. Nose is big caramel, brandy, and dark fruit. Flavor is similar with brandy barrel oak tannin backbone. With a caramel finish. slowrunner77 (12591) - Reno, Nevada, USA - SEP 12, 2014
"Holy hell!! This year’s comes in at a whopping 12.8% and somehow manages to be smoother and to show less alcohol than the 10.1% Silva Stout (also a great beer). This beer is a near prefect marriage of brandy and barleywine. Aroma is as good as it gets...toffee, slight earthy hops, hefty dose of brandy, caramel. Taste is similar but I kept going back to stick my nose in the glass. Probably the 3rd best BW (and best brandy) I’ve ever had, behind only King Henry and Abacus. Amazingly smooth and deeeelicious." drowland (8955) - Georgia, USA - APR 13, 2013
During RBWG 2013. Bottle shared by me from a trade with TigerBrew, I think. Deep amber brown pour with a nice tan head. Awesome rich BA aroma and flavor - fudge, wood, whiskey, vanilla, oak, etc. - with lots of dark fruits, molasses, brown sugar, and goodness underneath from the base. I’m digging their BA stuff! This brew pours a dark mahogany color with a medium thick and foamy khaki head that diminishes slowly. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of malt, brandy and molasses. Full, rich and boozy body with flavors of roasted malt, oak, vanilla and dark fruit. The finish is oaky bourbon and burnt malt with a lingering boozy aftertaste. Very good beer all around. Bottle from Bine and Vine: Created thick fluffy foam of head which eventually fizzed downwards while an opaque dark mahogany colored liquid rested below. Aroma is bold with a hefty serving of syrupy like malts that suggest melted caramel and sticky sweet maple syrup, however, only minor notes of wood barrel comes through. The flavor is initially sweet yet has a bite of bitterness that probably stems from the wood barrels. The drink is chewy with thick syrupy malts that resemble caramel maple syrup while allowing some room for fig or dates. It’s only after taking sips did the brandy barrel reach the spot light and seems as though it suppressed the original flavor of this beer but I mean that in a good experimental way. Certainly a big heavy hitting barley wine and glad this was only a 12 oz bottle instead of a bomber or 4 pack.

Aroma: Vanilla, brandy, woody and brown sugar
Taste: Brandy, grapes and woody
Great barley wine, great aroma
Bottle thanks to Tom. Pours a cloudy dark brown with thick creamy tan head that lasts. The aroma is strong brown sugar, figs, dark fruit. Thick mouthfeel with nice roast, caramel, figs, sweet finish. Very nice. jbeatty (1256) - New York, USA - MAR 21, 2013
Bottle, 03/21/2013. Pours deep dark brown, thick tan head settles respectably to the surface, nice lacing with active carbonation feeding the edge of the glass. Complex aroma- boozy candied fruits, cherry, chocolate toffee with some roast elements, sweeter caramel and brandy notes on top.Taste follows suit, though perhaps would be better with less carbonation- chocolate caramel toffee with roasted bitterness, booze, a little smoky too with sweeter barrel notes floating on top, lots of wood, drying out the finish. Thick, chewy palate. Really nice, reminds me in some respects of HotD offerings like Matt or Cherry Adam. Thorpe429 (5035) - , Illinois, USA - FEB 24, 2013
Big thanks to yourefragile for sharing this one. Nose has nice brandy and accompanying fruit. Mild sweetness and caramel. Flavor is brandy forward with nice sweetness. Quite smooth. StefanSD (2451) - Ouray, Colorado, USA - MAR 20, 2013
12 oz bottle from bev4less. pours a dark brown color with a medium beige head that has fair retention. The aroma is big and bold with molasses, toffee, cherries and some booze. The flavor, like the nose, has lots of toffee backed up by raisins, dates, caramel, molasses, brown sugar and some brandy. The palate is full and smooth with soft carbonation. Finishes long and dry with a bit of lingering brandy. Overall: Fine stuff, me like.
