As craft beer pioneers, we embarked on an expedition to brew the benchmark West Coast IPA. We ventured into the unknown and struck gold, discovering a tantalizing menagerie of hops. Simcoe for tropical and grapefruit zest, Columbus for hop pungency, Centennial for pine notes, Citra for citrus zest, and Cascade for floral aroma are layered throughout the brewing process. West Coast IPA exemplifies the Green Flash spirit of adventure and discovery.

UPDATED: JUN 9, 2014 Aroma is citrus, floral and vaguely boozy. Flavor is bigger includes citrus, pine, resin, tea and pear. Malt back is barely there but fits just fine. All in all I prefer this to the original single and find it worthy of its roots.

Draft at GF Mira Mesa. Pours clear bright amber with a fizzy off white head. Tastes like caramel malt, toasted, grapefruit hops, lemon, and pine. Light/medium body and carbonation. Smells like grapefruit hops, caramel malt, toasted, and light pine.

A nice, fresh, citrusy IPA. Pretty red amber color and medium sweetness in the taste, with notes of hops and oranges. Not a very noteworthy palate but a decent tasting beer overall. Would drink it again! And am not sure exactly what all the fuss is about the older vs newer version of this beer-- this one definitely isnt a 99/100 but is still decent, refreshing, and worth a try.

Clean, clear rustic orange color with a fluffy white head. The aroma is heavy on the caramel side with some grapefruit and tangerine. The flavors combine more of the tangerine and grapefruit with a sweet caramel base.

UPDATED: DEC 10, 2016 Expired 1 year ago. 1pt 6fl oz bottle at home from FirmaBier. Nose is grass, tropical fruits. Body is clear orange amber, head is big, cream white, rocky, mostly lasting, excellent lacing. Aroma is caramel, tropical fruits, tea leaves, milk chocolate, grapefruit. Light sweet, medium bitter. Finish is long lasting hoppy medium to heavy bitter. Medium body, creamy texture, average carbonation. Easy, refreshing, very tasty, good balance, great one. Can?t image how good would be a fresh one.

Out of the bottle, poured a deep copper, filtered clear, with a thick persistent off-white head. I got intense hop notes mainly grass, woodsy and pine with some subdued tropical notes that became more apparent as the glass warmed. On the palate, wild flower honey, pine, citrus peel, grapefruit pith, steeped tea. Refreshing with a lingering hop bitterness that was too astringent for my tastes on this particular day - but what can you expect with a 95 IBU double IPA!

Draft at the Va Beach brewery. Dark orange-umber. Frothy and beefy, this delivers all the great aspects of the best, American strong ales. Full of outdoorsy, woodsy goodness, with the perfect blend of pine, citrus, and viscosity. Excellent. (#6405, 11/19/2016)

12oz bottle - it pours a clear amber/copper color with a med soapy off white head. A hop dominated aroma of citrus peel, grapefruit, lime and subtle caramel malts. A very bitter flavor profile with lots of citrus bite, a hint of pine and a sweet malt background. Quite delicious

Strong and hoppy, bitter finish. I dont taste the grapefruit as the bitterness is so overpowering.
