Editors Note: If you had the 8.1% abv version marketed since 2014 as a Double India Pale Ale, this is the wrong beer page. Please rate under Green Flash West Coast IPA (2014 -).

This West Coast-Style India Pale Ale is extravagantly hopped, full flavored, medium bodied and copper colored. A menagerie of hops is combined throughout the brewing process to impart specific characteristics. Hops used include Simcoe for a unique fruitiness and grapefruit zest, Columbus for strong hop pungency, Centennial for pine and citrus notes, and Cascade for floral aroma.

Objectively speaking: Tasty Californian IPA that hits the spot.
I like: Perfumey and very aromatic. Not too bitter. Good hop balance and surprisingly complex in that department (pine, zesty citrus, clean fruits). Fruity, juicy palate. Fresh all around. Fair sweetness, but well-balanced by the hops resins and soft tannins - no agressive crystal character.
I dislike: Not much, its not reinventing the wheel, but it is straight-on what one looks for in an American IPA.

Tasting at lbaren 2008.03.11 - Thanks to Faroeviking for choosing and sharing this one as my #3000 on Ratebeer! Its orange-golden and the aroma is nice and fruity hoppy with loads of citrus, pine and caramel. The flavour has a nice bitterness with notes of citrus, mostly grapefruit, pine, fruit and a pleasant caramel sweetness, that brings a nice balance to the overall impression. Its a nice IPA.

Pours bright gold into a shaker. Fluffy white head with good retention leaves spot lacing as it slowly recedes to skim surface. Grapefruit and resin aromas. Clean and crisp with well-balanced malt upfront and a lasting citrus, pine and resin finish.

Aroma is a hops explosion of dried fruit and flowers, pine and a metallic background. Nice malty mid-palate with a clean herbal finish.

Bottle 12 fl oz. Pours pale copper with a small off-white head. The aroma is just amazing, a cascade of pure citrus. Flavor of citrus and hops with a nice bitterness in the end. The citrus and bitterness lingers. This is a superb IPA.

Bottle bought @ lbaren (also Marias rating # 3000). Pours a nice pale orange colour. Nice sweet pine, flower fruity aroma. Good mouthfeel. The flavour is sweet and quite fruity with a good hoppiness, malt, good bitterness and slight bit of grains. Dry fruity finish. Nice IPA!

12 fl oz bottle, thanks to faeroeviking. Pours hazy orange with a lacing off-white head. Hoppy fruity to floral with a dense caramel malt base. Pine flavour, woody and dry. Caramel malt and a solid spiced hops flavour on top. Floral lingering finish.

Bottle fom Doc Johnson: Pours a deep amber with a thick white head with debris throughout. Aroma is huge with hops and grapefruit. Heavy on the palate with complex hops. Finish is massive with hops that linger. One of the more aggessive IPAs ive had. Thanks Doc!

lordeche (479) - Quincy, Massachusetts, USA - MAR 10, 2008
Pours orange-amber with white head. Aroma is predominately citrus- grapefruit, lemon, orange- caramel malt, and some pine. Flavor is nicely zesty; again the focus is on the citrus hops. Strong grapefruit all the way through. Nice tangy bitterness at the end, mellowed with caramel and pale malts. Sticky palate, but a pleasant surprise.

Bottle, bought @ Vinens Verden, Odense.
Pours yellowish amber with a big bubbly/creamy yellow-white head. Aroma is very hoppy with pine and grapefruit dominating, some sweet sticky malts behind it. Light carbonation and rather full mouthfeel. Flavour is very sticky sweet at first, lots of malts and fruity hops. Then the bitterness takes over. Very dry mouthfeel Wonderful IPA.
