UPDATED: FEB 22, 2013 rerate 2013: found a coaster helping me remember having and enjoying this from tap @Spuyten Duyvil in Sept 2012. Obviously much more zesty and drinkable fresh...
S and above average, definitely hopped-for-more-hoppiness American IPA that was more a bitter bomb than a taste bomb, as I had expected. Reminiscent of Stone IPA - more zest than citrus, more alcohol than sweet malts. Drinkable, yes, but not instantly enjoyable as e.g. Anderson Valley D/IPA: the high ABV and bitterness are playing their own game and not working at the service of taste - a DIPA label may prepare for a fairer sampling experience, even if it may cost them checklist points with the extreme hIBUsters crowd.
In San Francisco. Pours copper with no head. Creamy cold with crisp citrus hops. A quick middle of caramel and a hint of sugar.

Acquired from Chopz via trade. 7.3%abv. Poured a very huge brownish head, but doesn’t really stay long. Leaves sporadic bubbles and foam with a small ring inside. Dirty patchy lacing. Has an amber/coppery appearance. Aromas of strong citrus and floral hops. Has a bit of a toasty malts scent as well. Strong citrus hop flavours. Nice bitterness to balance out the sweetness. Some nutty malt flavours and hints of spices as well, not too strong. Medium bodied, average carbonation. Smooth and well balanced between bitterness and sweetness. Pretty darn good stuff! Originally rated on 12/31/08. The aroma of pine was so pungent that it borders on skunky, The body was a slightly cloudy copper color. Mouthfeel was a little stickey but o.k. Flavor had a little malt to it but the grassy, piney hops overwhelmed them, good bitterness that didnt hang around forever. Overall it was a pretty decent beer. john44 (3078) - SW London, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 2, 2017
Bottle. Copper in colour. Mega-Hoppy; piney resinous oily and grass hops. Fruity; citrus grapefruit and lemon. Solid malty backbone. Great stuff. Definitely one for hopheads. Terrific IPA! (2010-10)

As old-guard IPAs went, this was pretty great, although the bitterness always bothered me. Still, a classic.

coppery orange color with off-white foam that although not abundant not disappear in the glass leaving snaps into the vessel walls. The aroma is intense, spicy citrus, with cuts of fresh pine, grapefruit, flowers and final malt nuances, caramel and some alcohol. The palate begins with a torrent of bitter citrus slowly giving way to a mixture of sweetish nuances of caramel and bitter as pine resin malt, grapefruit with a slight alcoholic sensation. But dry finish tour. medium body and moderate carbonation. mice (940) - FINLAND - AUG 10, 2016
Oranssinruskea, sameahko olut. Valkoinen, nopeasti häviävä mutta kuitenkin pitsiä jättävä vaahto. Tuoksu hyvin vahva; havuinen ja hedelmäinen. Maku yllättävän katkera jättäen pitkään kestävän katkeran jälkimaun. Greippisyys nousee esiin. Ei ehkä ihan omaan makuun sopivin. oldrtybastrd (5002) - Fort Walton Beach, Florida, USA - MAY 6, 2016
Pours a deep dark orangish amber color. Aromas of big hop action, sweet malts, and more hops. Flavor has some bready maltsy tastes with nice grapefruit and floral hop taste. ctipping (1944) - Florida, USA - APR 24, 2016
12 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass. Originally reviewed 6/5/2011.
Very hazy golden body that looks darker because of a slight murkiness. Nice two finger head and beautiful stick-looking lacing.
Smells like a hop monster. Piney and grassy hops. Not even a hint of malt. Just a hint of citrus hops.
Taste is exactly the same as the smell. Strong hop flavors of pine and grass. A brief sweetness of malt and then it gives way to a lingering bitterness. It love the hoppiness, but it’s pretty unbalanced.
Well carbonated and medium bodied, but it’s so high in carbonation it’s tough to tell. Such a low amount of malt that it’s super easy to drink. I could put a bottle away in minutes.
A hop bomb. angel77 (3245) - oviedo, SPAIN - FEB 26, 2016
Bastante buena.
