Cask (backlog). Deep goldeny/pale ambery colour with a small off-white creamy head, that leaves some lace. Aroma is caramel, some tropical fruits, mild bready and wooden notes. Flavour is resin, caramel, mild toasted notes as well as some fruity and mild berries to it.

[email protected] Philarmonic, Liverpool. Clear dark amber colour with a small off white head. Pretty muted aroma with some sweet malts showing. A little sweetish fruit in the similarly malt led flavour which continued into the gently bitter finish. Inoffensive if a bit insipid.

Cask (gravity) - The Triangle Tavern, Lowestoft. A clear copper coloured beer with a fine, loose & bubbly white leaving a scattered lace. Juicy orange aroma with a hint of red apple. Good, juicy sweet fruits on the tongue with a light tang, a light biscuit malt note and a subtle, dryish hop bitterness in the finish. Fair session stuff: light to medium body, soft mouthfeel with a lingering though delicate bitterness.

Cask-conditioned at the Suffolk Beer Festival, the Seven Stars, Bristol 4/07/2011. Deep gold with a slight, off-white head. Light, cereal malt and floral hop aroma with a touch of citrus fruit. Biscuity malt flavour with a touch of tangerine and bitter finish. Good.

Cask (handpump) at the Three Guineas, Reading on 27 April 2011. This seems to be a replacement for the Excelsior Golden Ale (previously a spring seasonal) that will be available year round. Exactly how it differs (apart from a lower ABV) is not entirely clear. Seemed more gold than brown to me so lets settle on amber. Quite fruity and a little sharp - lemony citrus in evidence. Light biscuity malt underneath. A decent light quaffer.

Cask at Wellington Arms, Bedford. Copper amber with a small white head. Sweet malt aroma and straightforward malty taste. Mid bitter finish. Utterly ordinary in a good way.
