Very dark brown, clear, small spongy head. Liquorice aroma, something menthol-like, even getting terveleijona pastils. Taste also very liquoricey. Bitter finish, lasts a long time. Has a bittering hop fingerprint I associate with Bramling Cross. Nice one, good breakfast beer.
Cask at the Triangle Tavern, Lowestoft, 21/11/16.
Extremely dark mahogany brown with a decent light tan crown of bubbles.
Nose is chocolate, dark malts, biscuit crumble, light charr, roasted tones.
Taste comprises cocoa powder, toffee, Bourbon biscuit, roast malt, light spice, fruit rinds, liquorice.
Medium bodied, soft carbonation, drying close.
Decent enough stout. tombyars (1749) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - NOV 15, 2016
Tasted this in the Salt Cot, Saltcoats (JDW) on the 13th November 2016. Cask, handpump dispense. Black ruby in colour with a thin creamy pale buff head. Malty aroma with overtones of dark berry fruit. Thin oily mouthfeel and good lacing. Dark malt complex gives a thin moist maltloaf base with plump bramble fruit, chocolate malt, molasses and roast grain. Dry hoppy prickle adds a dusty bitter aftertaste with cereal elements to the resins. Malty finish with overripe bramble, molasses and dark chocolate evident in the mouth. A cracking session stout and highly recommended. BlackHaddock (7562) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - NOV 10, 2016
cask half-pint in my local Wetherspoons on 9th Nov 2016. Deep ruby/brown body under a good depth of a lightly tanned foam. Usual stout aromas and taste: malty molasses, but not sweet, some hedgerow fruits and a hint of chocolate on a bed of smooth toffee: liked it. Cask HP at Hamilton Hall London as Green Jack Lurcher Stout. Dark brown, opaque, red hue when held to light, foamy light brown head leaves full lacing. Aroma is toffee, soft roast, dark breads. Body is smooth with soft carbonation. Taste is toffee and ash, twigs, woody, boiled sweets, burnt biscuit, light fudge offset by an ashy astringency. This is phenomenally well judged and flavourful for the abv. A mini triumph. I would happily drink many pints of this one. One of the best stouts I’ve tasted. jmgreenuk (9860) - Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA - AUG 21, 2016
Tap at the Upminster Taproom. Poured a clear dark brown with a bubbly round head. The aroma is smoky roast malt, light sweet caramel. The flavour is light sweet with a toasty liqourice light spicy hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.
